tldr: How can I make it run on my Nvidia GPU instead of the Intel iGPU?

Is it as simple as setting it up in Nvidia control panel, or is that not recommended? (I don't want to mess something up)

I dont think that WMM supports NVENC/CUDA based encoding.

Geforce 940MX doesn't appear to support NVENC either, but it does have 384 something CUDA cores apparently.

So either way as I understand this, it won't give me a lot of gains?

Is WMM still a thing?

I dont think it can use GPU though, too basic and old.

I haven't used that program before. What I can tell you is that you cannot use NVENC, that means hardware encoding. However you may be able to use hardware to accelerate decoding and pre-processing to accelerate the encoding process. If there is an option for hardware acceleration, select DXVA to enable that feature. It will help a little but not as much as NVENC would.

That's a good point, where would you get that from these days, Windows 10 does not ship with it anymore?

I mean it's right in the picture I posted, it does use intel GPU, only 50% on average though, which I didn't notice at first, so I don't think using the Nvidia GPU would speed things up much.

No, like all good things it's discontinued by windows team, it's still really good, fast , in comparison to everything I tried, and nearly lossless too. Max resolution however is 1080p...

Well, I just wanted to get some more information, I think I'm not doing anything yet, as I don't have the best experience with the NV control panel and changes can unfortunately *not* necessarily be reversed there (for example removing programs)

You won't be able to use Nvidia GPU for encoding. WMM just doesn't support that as development of the software stopped long before GPU encoding became reality.

You should be able to use it like the iGPU is currently used. Which is to display and scrub timeline. This is pretty much same as when games for reason or another don't utilize dedicated GPU. Usually this is about power savings settings where dGPU is used only when demand from software goes over some threshold. I think this is somewhere in Nvida controls or Windows power settings. I haven't actually read all those threads which ask about fixes to this thing.

Ah, I see so it's probably better to just leave it like that as it's already using the iGPU,at least for pre-processing.

I'm not finding a lot of options in WMM , that would be an easy way to try it out. I was really just curious - I didn't even realize how "outdated" the software is since it's really a breeze to use compared to modern video editing programs - and much faster , probably because it's made to run on much weaker hardware (program is from 2012 lol).

Thanks for the info, that's basically all I wanted to know!
