Ryzen 5-3600X, rtx 3070. B450 or B550?

Hey guys!

So Im about to build my very first gaming pc as soon as 3070 comes out. So I was wondering if I should buy the B450 or B550 motherboard. I will be using a Ryzen 5 3600X cpu with an rtx 3070 and 16gb 3600mhz ddr4 ram. Im not very experienced when it comes to pc building so I am just wondering what the main difference between B450 and B550 is and IF its actually worth the 50-70 extra $. If I buy a b450 tomahawk it costs 105$ in my country. However, B550 tomahawk costs 160-170$. Is it really worth that price difference?

Thank you :)

I would probably go with the b450 board as really the only thing you gain from the b550 board would be PCIe gen 4 which unless you have a use for a high speed PCIe gen 4 ssd is not worth the extra money. The B450 Tomahawk is still an awesome board and will easily handle everything you plan on using

the 3600x isn't worth the price premium for it. The main diff is pcie4 support (b450=pcie3 b550=pcie4)

Also in 4 days there will probably be R5 5600X announcement.

But if you already have 3600X then I guess disregard that.

I edit my posts more often than not

Strictly between these two models, the b550 tomahawk has a far better vrm and gen 4 bandwidth for the lanes that are wired to the cpu, but both can easily handle a 3600/x/xt, and a 3070 is not affected by gen 3 bandwidth (or any ampere card honestly), budget for a board? you could also wait for zen 3 and to check what it has to offer.

100-140$. I saw that theres a B550-A Pro for only 120$ so maybe I should buy that?

Appreciate all your replies though. Thank you

That's a steal for that board.

you could get it, it's a pretty good board. Since i don't know how prices are where you live, this board is pretty good.

Thanks again! I will get that. Only like 15$ more expensive than B450 tomahawk.
