Keep hearing my mic only in left channel

Go to solution Solved by The Flying Sloth,

That's by design, don't worry about it, voice chat and call programs will downmix to mono, it's not an issue.

I just got MOTU M2 and Shure SM7B. Tried to monitor myself through windows and got audio only in left channel and i can't set it to 1 channel 48khz in the settings. I keep getting the same error "format is not supported by this device". It's stuck on 2 channels 48khz. I reinstalled drivers, i tried switching between usb ports, i updated windows to the latest version and even every small unnessecary update as well, i tried using windows audio recording troubleshooter (didn't find any problems), I tried different buffer sizes. And on the interface itself it's showing audio only in one channel. So nothing works out. I assume it might be my old PC. I'm rocking 4670k with 8GB of RAM. But i still doubt it's my PC. So if you know the solution please let me know.

Here are screenshots of settings, audio interface and other stuff.

Hi, I also own the M2 and the SM7B and run Windows 10.

Like you, I also experienced the same error.

I called MOTU tech support.

Turns out that unlike Focusrite, that requires you change from MONO to STEREO through Windows 10's device properties.

With the M2 you can simply change it from your DAW, for example, in Audacity, simply change from a STEREO recording to a MONO recording.

Simmilarly, thorugh applications like Ableton Lite, simply select mono and deselect stereo in the Audio Input settings through Preferences.

I hope this helps.

Long press the MON button to switch between stereo monitoring and monitoring a mono mix. In stereo mode, you will hear your microphone only on one channel and see a dash between your two channels on the display.

Too bad you need extra software though... I would prefer do change this globally and not in each program

Instead of using "Motu 1-2" as your recording device, select "Motu Loopback Mix" as your mic, if you want to record in stereo -- this will give you 2 identical tracks.  Otherwise, just record to mono, assuming your DAW allows it, and the mono recording will be heard through both earphones or speakers. (Steaming or meeting software will mix it down to mono for you automatically, which again will be heard through both sides.) I had this issue when recording to Camtasia, which, unlike Audacity etc,  has no option to record mixed-down to mono, so it records from the Motu with sound on only one side. (The fix, in Camtasia and perhaps some other programs, is that it has an option to mix mono -- actually, dual mono --after recording.)  I don't know why Motu does this, lacking the option to record to one channel, as it's the only thing I dislike about the Motu M2.
