Internet slower than molasses

datfoxheh

Hi guys, this is my first ever post on here and I wanted to voice my frustration and also try to receive some help if possible. I live in a semi-rural area in Tennessee, about 15 minutes from my nearest town. We have tried to contact ISPs in our area however we seem to be just a hair out of range to receive any service like Xfinity and the sorts. So as an alternative, we chose HughesNet since its one of the few satellite providers that will provide us internet. Never in my life did I think I would suffer from internet withdrawals. Our download speed are only slightly faster than an old man with arthritis crossing a busy road. If you want an example, it took Doki Doki Literature Club an hour to install on my Dell Inspiron 7567. A game that is only 250 megabytes.... Needless to say, streaming Netflix and attempting to play any online video games is absolutely a waste of time since we only ever sit there while our content loads. Is there any other alternatives when it comes to satellite internet providers, or is there any way for a more trusted ISP to provide us with faster internet? Granted we don't live too far from civilization, in fact we have a Nascar superspeedway about 5 minutes away from us in walking distance. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this if you've read this far

You can make a wireless point to point link 10-20km away to a friend that has proper internet and is willing to share it with you

You want better internet? Move. Fiber and Coax internet requires a certain level of population density to be profitable. Generally the phone company would serve areas like yours but you're going to be limited to 3 to 6 Mbps aDSL. You can try going LTE via what ever cellular company has the best signal. You can also see if there are WISP's in the area, they are similar to cellular providers, providing wireless internet, but use different methods to deliver it. Besides that your only option is to move.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

My mother in law has to have HughesNet where she lives (Missouri) - its ridiculously overpriced, shitty internet.  (and I mean ****ing terrible, speeds and customer service)

If you have cell phone signal, you may be better off tethering.

The issue for the OP is that Hughs Net is Satellite internet. Which is the crapiest internet. They only provide up to 25 Mbps, and it has data caps, though you just get throttled down when you go over.

internet in NorthAmerica is shit. population density is too low for companies to be able to build out reliable service for everyone. so they are all shitty, expensive, and completely unreliable unless you live in a big city. if you do not have any other ISPs in your area, and you cannot use your phone LTE service, you probably have no option but to move.

Some phone companies allow you to get a free device you can use in your home where it boosts the LTE signal if the signal is low. see if you have that option as it can dramatically improve speed/reliability and LTE tethering can become a real option for you.
