Do you need b550 or x570 for rtx 3000?

Lotinsh

I was looking to buy a 3070, money is tight, do I really need a new motherboard? I have a asrockasrock ab350m pro4 r2.0, I know its not PCIe 4.0 but will the bottleneck be noticeable? I just want some performance for cheap.

My current specs are: ryzen 3200g, rx590 550w psu 16gb ram 2666mhz

Your motherboard won't "bottleneck" a 3070, I'm just curious what CPU you've got in said board.

No, the change from PCIe3 to PCIe4 is basically a non-issue. OFC you should wait for reviews and performance benchmarks, but it seems likely that there will be a negligible decrease, if any.

You do not NEED it, as PCIe 4.0 GPU's are backwards compatible. However we do not yet know the performance advantages of PCIe 3.0 vs 4.0 motherboards. Like everyone we need to patiently wait for in depth reviews.

No, for the most part x16 gen 3 is more than enough for a 3070 and it should not saturate it but wait for ampere to actually launch and check. but again it shouldn't affect anything.

Yea, no, a better cpu and something like a 3060 when ever that releases is a better thing to do.

I am going to buy a new cpu as well, now knowing that my shitty motherboard is enough, hope the psu will be, I'm probably gonna buy 2600x or 3600 maybe, just maybe 3600x, also because I do 3d modeling I might buy 2700x

Yeah you'll be choking that 3070 horribly. I'd suggest getting something like a Ryzen 3600 and waiting for the RTX 3060 or RDNA2, if AMD does bring a card cheaper than the 3070 at launch.

For CPU, I think you could probably swing for the 3700X once the 4000 series comes out and the 3000 series gets cheap.

Also make sure your motherboard is compatible with 3000 series CPUs.

I looked it can support up to ryzen 9 3000, as far as I know, with latest bios. @Mateyyy

Edit: my cpu budget is 150-200€ so I'll see what I can get for that price

it technically can, though that board does not have the best vrm to say the least, it wont be able to handle a 3900x sadly.

something like a 3600 should be a nice upgrade from the 3200g. and i would not use anything better than a 3700x with that board.

@TofuHarotonice, 9 3000 was not in my budget anyway the 3700x might be tho, I was wondering about the vram, I mean, you always have the option to liquid nitrogen cool it

No it wont, if they overheat, the board will probably shut down it self assuming it has over temp protections. (which it should but i'm not sure.)

as for power consumption wait for ampere to actually come out and check the 3070's power consumption.

as for models, MWE Gold 550w, rm550x, tx550m, revolution D.F, BitFenix Whisper M, BitFenix forumla gold, ION+, AMP, Focus GM, straight power 11 (gold), pure power 11 are some decent options.
