well yeah if you want to upgrade then you need a new mobo and ram depending on what youre upgrading to

if youre just adding a gpu you dont have to but if you notice that your cpu is at 100% while gaming and your gpu is chilling at 30% or whatever then maybe you should get a better cpu.

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

Watch some benchmarks on YouTube and you will see that a 4790 performs close to the 2600x in most games, and I bet a lot of 2600x users will upgrade to the 3000 series.

Like boggy points out, higher graphics settings with lower refresh rates like 60hz reduces the chances of the cpu being the limiting factor.

My i7 4790K does great with 4K60 on many games with an RTX 2080. I've moved the 2080 to my Ryzen 7 3800X build, but it'll be moving the RTX 2080 back to the to the i7 4790K when the RTX 3080 is in my hands :) - Will be using the i7 4790k as a living room machine to drive the TV & use controllers

Gave up using my 4790k when the 10 series launched. Couldnt handle the cpu intensive games i played.

well i'm on the same boat, still on 4790k but too much out of budget for an entire upgrade. will just wait another year

Anything beyond a 1080ti performance is sort of a waste at 1080p, so if u get a 3070 make sure ur atleast at 1440p.

CPU becomes less of an issue as u put more load on the GPU. For example Im running a 2nd gen Intel i series (a 3930k, same gen as 2700k), however ill be getting either a 3080, 3080ti or Big navi. Im not worried about a CPU bottleneck because ill be running 4k, and 4k levels the playing field big time.
