AMD or Intel for new build

hiimFred

Hello people. I'm thinking of upgrading my build the upcoming months when my seasonal job will finally be over. I'm currently using an i5 6500/GTX 1070 build and I've had no problems whatsoever. But due to the arrival of Cyberpunk 2077 and other games, I think it's time to upgrade.

I am between a 10600k and an R7 3700X.

Primary use will be gaming/movies and browsing. In my country, Greece, 10600k is cheaper than the 3700X. Also I want a hassle free experience. Are Ryzen ok? Or will I get blue screens/high temps/have to mess with bios settings?

I plan to upgrade CPU/mobo, RAM, GPU and SSD. My PSU is a G2 550. Will it be enough?

Chasis: Lian Li O11 Dynamic Evo || PSU: Seasonic PX 650 || Mobo: MSI Z690 Pro A || CPU: Intel i5 12600K || CPU Cooler: Lian Li Galahad AIO 240 || RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB @3200 || GPU: AORUS 4070 ti Elite || Boot Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB || Secondary Drive: Crucial MX300 525GB || HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB || Intake Fans: 3x Lian Li UniFan SL120 || Exhaust Fans: 2x Lian Li UniFan SL120 || Mouse: Logitech G Pro Wireless || Keyboard: Das Keyboard 4Q with Cherry MX Browns || Monitor: Acer Predator IPS 165Hz GSync

Budget for a whole build? since you're just gaming a 10600k is more than enough, games do not scale to 8 cores, and afaik the g2 is decent and will do the job.

though you wont build it right around not, wait for zen 3 and ampere and big navi and check what they have to offer.

Yes, it's just as stable as intel cpu's for the most part.

for the most part, that could be caused by other things.

Both are excellent cpu choices that offer    minuscule difference in experience. You won’t bluescreen or have bios issues with either. Just look up bench marks and get whichever you feel is the better value.

what ever is cheaper and available at the time of purchase. can't go wrong with either of them for what you're wanting to do.

@TofuHaroto @Jumballi @Arika S @gloop Thanks for the replies. I don't have a specific budget. I'm also looking at a 2070. Should I need a bigger PSU?

10600k it is I guess, since it's cheaper. Should I format my drives before plugging them in?

Wait for zen 3 and ampere and big Navi and then check, but a number would be helpful.

You couldn't but when switching platforms, windows can be a bit iffy.

If you're waiting till November, then actually wait till november, for new parts.

What are we expecting in November? My job has me a little bit off things. Also new parts mean higher prices the first months

They also mean lower prices on older parts.

Ryzen 4000 chips, an announcement alone will deeply discount the 3000 series

RTX 3090, 3080, 3070. Hopefully 3060, that might take till q1 2021
