UPS supply for heavy duty

AhmedIlyas

so my powerful HDET is on 24/7.

Sometimes power does go out in the complex but rarely.

I am thinking of getting a UPS that will

- alert me if power is off and running from backup supply

- has a runtime of around 30 mins to give me enough time to login remotely and shutdown safely.

Power consumption currently... i am not sure but I have an 800W PSU I think so lets go with that.

What do you recommend?

what hardware is in it? 800W is in the 2 to 3 GPU territory

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

If we went with 800W as your power-draw and a runtime of 30 minutes, you'd be looking at something like a 3000VA or 4000VA UPS. That's gonna be big and expensive.

With the above in mind, your PSU's wattage is NOT how much your system draws; it's the maximum it can draw.

BTW is it ok and safe to keep the UPS plugged into the mains at all times?

Would be a pretty damn useless UPS, if it was unsafe to have it plugged in...

Agreed. I have seen some UPS state not to plug it in all the time to the mains... which I found weird...
