PSU for RTX 2070 Super

AXXXX

Hello, Im planning to do some upgrade to my GPU this year. Currently mine is Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming, and I want to upgrade it to MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming Trio to safeguard my PC from heavy and great upcoming AAA games.

The problem is, Im not so sure about the PSU loads. Some articles said that 550w is enough. But the product description recommends to get a 650w one. I dont want to change the PSU, since it will cost me more money. Besides, I think my own PSU is still in a great condition to run. Its only been 2 years since I ve purchased my rig.

So, what do u guys think? is 600w safe enough to embrace the RTX 2070 Super? Or do you have any other advice?

Here are my current gaming rig's components :

Motherboard : MSI B360 Gaming Pro Carbon

CPU : Intel i5-8400

GPU Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming

CPU Cooler : Deepcool Gammax GT RGB

Case Fan : Deepcool RF 120 RGB (3x)

RAM : V-Gen Tsunami RGB 16GB (2x8)

SSD : 250GB

HDD : 1 TB

PSU : SilverStone ST60F-ES230 600w (80 plus)

Wattage wise it’s ok. However that is a pretty low quality psu. On the psu tier list (linked in my signature), it is ranked tier d which means it’s recommended for systems with an integrated gpu.
I would definitely recommend upgrading. Anything tier b+ or above would be good. Wattage wise, 500w should be enough, but I would go for 550w or more.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

The 2070 super will use very similar wattage to the 1070, but agreed, its not the best PSU that exists...

Also, with 3000 series GPU's around the corner, definitely wait for those, or grab a cheap 2080 super on clearance sale for instance.

As suggested it would be enough but not a bad idea of upgrade as it's a pretty entry level PSU for the hardware being paired to it.

ah yes been hearing about the 3000 series. when those will be released? next year perhaps? because, I might change my mind about the 2070 lol. Instead, I ll go to replace my CPU to i9-9900k, motherboard, and also the PSU.

They should be announced early next month. Available for sale a few weeks after that.
Don’t upgrade your cpu to a 9900k. If you want intel, go for 10th gen. But consider amd. Almost the same gaming performance and more powerful in other tasks for less money. However, new CPUs will be out later this year, so it might be worth it for you to wait until then to upgrade cpu and motherboard.

But definitely upgrade the psu whenever possible.

I wouldn't go 9900k, the 10700k is faster and cheaper.

New 3000 GPU's should be out in the next couple months. Also keep an eye out for new AMD 4000 CPU's soon as well.
