High temps Ryzen 3900x - Kraken x73

boxXx

Fella's,

I recently got my hands on a Ryzen 3900x, threw a Kraken x73 on there with a 360mm rad.

My temps are quite high tbh, running 42 degrees celcium idle, when stressing it goes upto 87/88...

The fans ramp up like crazy!!

Are there any better performing coolers out there?

Already tried reapplying and reseating the Block, but nothing dropped the temps.

Thanks for the help

There is something wrong, you should not see temps like that at all.

Make sure the fans on the radiator are not obstructed and can actually move air through it.

Try running the radiator outside the case, that would indicate a problem with your current setup.

If temps don't drop by at least 20C, your unit is fauly, have it replaced / RMA.

I can’t seem to find any good reviews of the kraken running with a 3900x so im not sure about the temperatures, regarding my ambient room temperature. The fans run freely, i will try the rad outside the case tommorow.

I have exactly the same setup. Kraken x73 on 3900x. I use grizzly thermal paste.

With stock settings and an ambient of 28-32celsius, my temperature is exactly the same as yours.

With negative offset at -0.125, I have 75-77 Celsius after 300sec on cinebench r20. The score is around 7000.

With prime95, it can hit 80-82 degrees for some seconds after 30minutes of stress test, but after that it goes at 72-77.

After all the possible tests and positioning of the kraken, I think that if you want better temperatures with 3900x, should manually overclocking.

The best and easiest solution is the negative offset.

Thats some low scores on stock.

On my x370 and 3900x I do 7300 stock,

I have a loop with a ek block.

With all day OC of 44.50 44.50 43.50 43.50 and 1.365v on load 1.30v I have max 73c and 7800 on cine 20.

I have less temps with the oc then stock.

Maybe the real problem is the motherboard then?

I see in some forums, users that have similar temperatures (40-45 idle and more than 80 on stress test et benchmarks) with kraken X73 and Z73 on 3900x and all of them (me too), use x570 motherboards.

If I put negative offset at -0.08, i can take 7228 on cinebench, but the temperature hits 82-83 celsius after 150 seconds (and stays there for some seconds).

Ambient room`s  temperature for me at the moment of tests was 28-30 degrees celsius.

AIO and box`s fans run at a custom and very agressive curve:) 100% after 70 degrees.

My case is NZXT h710i with 3x120mm front fans (intake), 3x120mm AIO fans ont top (exhaust)  and one 140mm at the back (exhaust).

I`m wondering if x73 isn`t a very good 360mm AIO at all....

Same setup here, X73 with a 3900X. about 71 under load, idle is often below 30 degrees celsius.

No complaints whatsoever in regards to temperatures, but mine seems to be running a bit louder than I would like, even at low pump speeds. That is my beef with it. At least this is only planned as a temporary solution for me as I bought this AIO to somewhat learn a little about watercooling and get confident enough to build my own loop in a couple years.

This was initially not my AIO of choice but many where not available easily in Australia, so went with that one. Temperatures are actually better than I expected. If you'd like to know, my case is O11D and radiator is on the side as intake, with 3 fans at bottom as intake and 3 fans at top as exhaust.
