Windows 9 and the push to get people off of Windows XP

DeViLzzz

Nooooo xp FTW screw win 8 and if 9 is anything similar then that too lol

7 is my fave and I can live with 8, but honestly I still have an xp machine and there is nothing wrong with it. Btw have you seen the article on the Chinese company continuing the security packages? Can't remember where it is but it's interesting...

I'll upgrade to whatever works the best.

If 9 works better (as I'm sure it will [8 is the testing phase, 9 will be the real OS.]) I'll have 9.

If it comes out before I'm done uni, I might be able to get it for free. But not after I read some reviews and views on it first. Windows 8.1 isn't too bad compared to Windows 7, but then again I got it for free. :P

I didn't see enough benefits to warrant me upgrading from Windows 7 to 8.1 for the cost. But Windows 9? We'll see...

Yeah probably. Hopefully they merge the Modern UI onto the desktop. Winkey on Desktop should overlay the Modern UI onto the desktop, not go to a new screen, especially since now MUI apps work on desktop. They could animate the transition. Imagne hitting Win key on the desktop and the tiles animate out of the bottom left or/and shortcuts on desktop stretch into a tile if the user has laid out the MUI lioke that, but also the clock from bottom right animates into the clock while transitioning to MUI layout all while still on the desktop.

Booting should still go to MUI/start(by default), but after going into desktop mode, unless you drag the desktop down and close it, then the MUI will only be an overlay.

IMO, MUI is no different then hitting start on OLD Windows versions. We ultimately have more control over what's included in start. It's better.

My netbook still runs XP and it has no issues what so ever, although the power plug is wearing out so I might have to replace after these 4 years.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/windows-8-windows-9-upgrade-dell-windows-xp,25843.html#xtor=RSS-998

Dell is in on the push to get people off of Windows XP.  Will you upgrade to a new OS in the future?

Kevin Parrish writes a new MS article every few days. Who cares what Kevin Parrish says.

When you are talking about XP you are talking about old hardware. Those people can't just upgrade to Win 9. They need new hardware, and if their old hardware does what they want? They aren't going to upgrade it.

Some people simply have an old computer that they just want to check email with, surf the internet with. No I am not one of them, but I understand that. The modern UI and OS isn't gonna run on those computers unless you want a slide show.

The people on XP don't simply hate the UI, they don't want to have to buy a new computer to do what they can already do. The problem is, those people also probably couldn't install or run linux (learning curve). MS could make a low, low system usage OS for them, without all this cloud stuff and modern UI, but instead they want to force hardware upgrades with TPM 2.0.

This idiotic article by Kevin Parrish (and all his articles are stupid) never addresses the HARDWARE problem and instead he just pushes touch and company slogans. This isn't an OS upgrade this is a new touch computer upgrade. The article is completely misleading.

Microsoft just couldn't add something like start8 to the windows 8?

It's not a bad OS compared to Vista. Glad to see XP die, shit has been on life support for too long.

You mean old hardware has been supported much too long? There are hundreds of thousands of grandma's and grandpa's living out their on fixed incomes that just can't go out and buy a new computer and they don't have a relative that can install linux.

All they want to do is send a email every few days to keep in touch with family. log on facebook to keep in touch with family and print out a letter to the city or a newspaper every once in awhile or buy something online.

Unless you are buying them that new computer that can run this OS (and this article was just pushing a new touchscreen computer)? This attitude is really kind of silly.

I would just give my grandma a tablet for Christmas, but I don't have any old relatives.

Guy's we need to hire an exorcist...

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind MUI if it clearly wasn't intended to be made for touchscreens. I'm on a PC not a tablet. Win8 is like them PC ports that are so bad they leave the xbox controller prompts in.

Also, Win8 is buggy as hell (from personal experience). Constant wifi drops (which i don't get on win7, using exactly the same win8 optimized drivers), upgrading from win7 causes half the apps to not work even though it says they're compatible. Win8.1 didn't really help anything for me, just added a few necessary features, which i could get with startisback so that was pointless. I will upgrade to win9 when it's out in hopes that they fix their shit and learn that we don't need all this stuff meant for tablets/touchscreens.

So what then? Your grandparents still use Windows 3.1? because you could use email with that too!
