Ryzen 5 3600 RTX 2080 Super bottleneck

DanDaft

Will a ryzen 5 3600 bottleneck a 2080 super? been looking around at some benchmarks and it seems like it doesn't, since i’m targeting mostly gaming the 3700X’s extra cores aren’t necessary for me.

Should be more than fine. If its an option I would wait for the 3000 Series so you can either get better cards for same price or that card for a lower price.

on wich resolution are you gonna play?
Higher res is more dependant on graphic card over processor

Technically, yes. But the word bottleneck is thrown around a lot without much definition.

Will you get less FPS than a 10600k or higher, yes you will. Will a 10900k give you the most possible FPS? Yes, sure will. Is it worth the price of a 10900k for the 5-10% gain, maybe? That’s up to you.

If the main use of the system is for gaming, I would recommend Intel. It will give you more FPS, plain and simple. But, that certainly does not mean a 3600 is not a great option, at an amazing price point.

For instance, if the money you save going 3600 vs say a 10700k gives you enough to step up from a 2070 super to a 2080 super, definitely go for the 2080 and the 3600 as they will provide more FPS than intel and a 2070. If you can afford both a 10700k and a 2080 super, and your main objective is gaming, go with that is my recommendation.

Unless you're going for 240FPS in every Esport title out there, it should be fine.

a 3600+2080 ti comes dangerously close to a 10600k+2080S. I'm not saying the 3600 turns the 2080S into a 2070S, but it is a 700usd gpu. my recommendation is a 10600k+2080S or wait for ampere in 3 weeks then decide.

Either 1080p 240hz or 1440p 144hz depending on which monitor I end up getting.

I’ve considered Intel but the value of going AMD is better for me, where I am, an Intel i5 10600K costs as much as a ryzen 7 3700X. Thanks for the the recommendation though.

That's what it's priced everywhere, it's within about $10 of the 3700X, plus or minus.

With a 2080 Super, the 3600 should be fine for 1440p 144Hz. For 1080p 240Hz though I'd definitely go with the 10600K (though I'd go 1440p 144Hz if I were you, unless you only play Esport titles).

I don't know how this would change with the next-gen GPUs, which I'd suggest waiting for btw, considering we're quite close to launch.

Ah okay, did not know regarding pricing.

I don’t think i’m getting a system anytime soon, so I will just wait for the new GPUs.

I’ve just been looking at the options for when I do get a pc.
