i7 7700k stock upgrade to i9 10900k worth it?

like the title says, what do you guys think? an i7 7700k stock to i9 10900k stock. Purely mainly for gaming at 1440p 165hz and 4k 60hz

just get a 10600k and OC it, if you really need the upgrade.

No. If you are getting the fps you want its fine. It would be worth more to oc the 7700k.

you'll need a new motherboard for the 10900k, just FYI

 

and at that point, get the 10600k (or 10700k) if you only want to game

or the 3600(or 3700x) for better multithreaded tasks

If you've got a fairly good cooler on it, I'd suggest trying out your luck in overclocking it first. It should work alright even with a 2080Ti at 1440p if you can get it to ~4.8GHz+.

Don't know about Ampere/RDNA2 though, depends on how strong those perform. If you want to upgrade though, strictly for gaming, get a 10600K.

10600k is just as good for gaming. 

but just overclock the 7700k, still holds pretty well in gaming and especially at 1440, there's more load on the gpu than the cpu, so the 7700k will work nicely even with a 2080ti.

or wait for zen 3 and check what it has to offer.

So it's really depends, if you play games competitively then yes you should upgrade but you have to upgrade you GPU first(unless you have like a 2080ti or 2080 super).

Nowadays, games are still GPU bound so no point spending money in wrong places.
