I think my psu is not powerful enough

Mondas42

Morning, When I build my PC I used one of the online psu calculators to figure out what psu I needed. It calculated that a 600W psu would be fine for my system, but since then I've added a few bits and added a slight overclock to the CPU. Now when I tap in the numbers Its telling me I need at least a 650W psu. As things stand all is running ok but I'm hoping to take advantage of the new GPU's coming out to change my 5700XT to either the new Big Navi or a discounted 2080Ti. I can get a 850W psu for about £130 (Corsair RM850x). Would you change the psu?

My system is:-

Ryzen 9 3900X (OC to 4.25GHz)

Sapphire RX 5700XT OC SE edition

24Gb 3600 DDR 4

2x M.2 drives

1x SATA SSD

1x SATA Mechanical HD

Asus X570 ROG Gaming-f MB

Coolermaster H500M case

I'm also running 2x 200 RGB fans in the front of the case, 1x 140 at the rear and 2x Corsair ML140 RGB at the top.

EDIT: I'm also running 2 x 27inch Monitors both at 1440p

Current PSU is the Kolink Enclave 600 Gold plus psu

psu calculators over estimate wattage consumption.

a 600w is more than enough, your system consumes 350ish-400ish watts at worst. and the psu is good (at least according to the list.).

Your computer won't use more than 400W at worst load.

Your PSU is also of decent quality.

So there's no issue whatsoever.

Even with a big upgrade you'll still be fine, as power consumption goes down with each new process shrink.

yea you'll be fine, i spent more money on a psu and got a corsair rx750 which meant i got slower tham than i could have gotten.

and it's more than enough for my system with a 2700x and a 2080

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

My system is:-

125-150w Ryzen 9 3900X (OC to 4.25GHz)

225-250w Sapphire RX 5700XT OC SE edition

10w 24Gb 3600 DDR 4

5w 2x M.2 drives

2w 1x SATA SSD

8w 1x SATA Mechanical HD

15w Asus X570 ROG Gaming-f MB

Coolermaster H500M case

~2w per fan I'm also running 2x 200 RGB fans in the front of the case, 1x 140 at the rear and 2x Corsair ML140 RGB at the top.

~40..60w per monitor depending on brightness, but they have their own power supply   EDIT: I'm also running 2 x 27inch Monitors both at 1440p

The 250w for video card may be too high, but it's good to have some reserves.

Your system may reach around 400w of power consumption from 12v output of your psu, which should  be at least around 550 watts, so you're fine.
