Yes, that is quite a while away.. so much for a "launch". Seems like they just wanted to announce it the day before the Oneplus Nord goes on sale.

And as per usual, the Pixel phone will not be available at all in Belgium or the Netherlands.

Very disappointing.

So how much of an upgrade would the Pixel 4a be over the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime running Android 5?  That's what my parents have now, they're wanting new phones, and I'm strongly thinking of recommending the 4a.  Also a friend got one at a store the other day (He's in Desert Hot Springs, CA) and he loves it, from what my dad told me.

Well, he will run Android 11 when it comes out for one (Android 10 now). Which (v: 10 or 11) brings MASSIVE improvement in terms of security, privacy and features compared to Android 5. The CPU should be miles better and the camera is leagues ahead. He will lose the microSD card slot, but pass from 8GB to 128GB.

Ah, so kind of like his laptop upgrade from a Dell D830 with a Core 2 Duo T7250, Intel GMA graphics, 2GB DDR2-667, 500GB WD BPKT HDD (860 Evo SSD in the last year or two), 15.4" 1280x800 TN display, Windows XP, to a Dell Inspiron (forget which model) with i7-8565U (iirc), AMD Radeon 530, 16GB DDR4-2666 (iirc), 250GB Micron M.2 SSD + the 500GB 860 Evo, 17.3" 1920x1080 IPS display, Windows 10? :) Or would it be even a bigger upgrade, like in the mid 1990s, going from a 286-10 to a 486DX4-120? :)

Also, I want to see the "I won't buy a phone without a headphone jack" holdouts put their money where their mouth is and buy the Pixel 4a without question. No, it doesn't matter that it's not much faster than your two-year-old phone, you said you'd only ever buy phones with headphone jacks... you're due for an upgrade, prove it!

Right here, my friend. Upgrading from my Exynos Note8 to the Pixel 4a and the headphone jack was a driving factor in my decision. Another driving factor was being limited to the 3G network because AT&T doesn't like certain international phones, and my Note was one of them. As you've said, the Pixel 4a isn't much faster than my Note8 and overall isn't a big upgrade. However, I'm expecting longer battery life, smoother performance, better camera, faster OS updates, and a fucking headphone jack for a measly $350. Sign. Me. Up.

Headphone holdout here. Going from a OnePlus 3T to 4a :) Though this is more a coincidence. I have nothing against dongles; just seemed the right point to upgrade.
