Best way to waste $700

Ryan Leech

$300 ISP Korean 1440p monitor and some $300-$400 video card, maybe stretch for a 780 or if prices aren't inflated get a 290.

if you like your monitors already, there is not point of getting a new one..just make sure that the 4800x900 works.

And then get a 780/780ti with the $700 you have budgeted. That way you have both the lulz (4800x900) and logical/smart decision (780)

Well he still has to buy one 900p monitor since he has 2 not 3. I'd also agree to spending the rest on the GPU, but since you will need a new PSU for that (in any config you could imagine, be it 3x 465 or 770 or 780 or maxwell) go spent what's needed on those two areas and safe the rest for a good GPU. And yes I'm still recommending 4GB.

Yes, I read it.

Why, well because 465 SLI is ar really bad idea, and because 3 low res monitors isn't as good as one 1440 monitor.

Also Arma 3 is going to be CPU bound with what he's trying to do, perhaps a little dose of reality is what this thread needs?

Surround/Eyefinity have about a 0.3% gaming market presence because it's not that good.

well you're right about most of that but as you might have noticed this is about getting the most fun from those $700 and not the best performance/best image quality ;)

I'm starting to think that I may just go with a 2GB 770, stick with my 1600x900, and then spend the rest on an LGA775 secondary system. I can save the rest. After the summer I might buy an 880 and 2 more 1600x900 monitors

the question is: will you ever use the secondary system? I also have multiple computers but I only use my PC for my daily stuff (everything including gaming) and my tablet/transformerbook to watch movies at night or surf the web while outside of my room :D one of my systems even is ready to play BF3 on medium on 1080p but I dont use it.

so it's depending on your usecase, I guess it's not worth it. focus on your mainsystem first ;) and as far as I know maxwell is not gonna bring that much innovation. If I were you (setting my purchase of a R9 290 aside) I'd get a 770 or 780 with 2-4GB and then as soon as possible the 3rd screen ;)

The thing is, I only need to buy a power supply and I'll have a complete secondary system.

As for surround, I am worried that the 770 won't be able to handle ARMA 3 maxed out 4800x900. If I buy the 780, I'll be overbudget

Waste, as in pouring $700 down the drain (ie throwing money away)?  I would vote option 2.

Waste, as in spending $700 without a care of your budget, as in spending $700 on something really really cool... I would vote option 7, the GTX 780ti.
