Best way to waste $700

Ryan Leech

I have a pair of ATH AD-700X's and a 240GB Mushkin SSD (for steam library) coming in the mail. So I have roughly $700 remaining to waste on upgrades for my system.

I mostly play ARMA II, ARMA 3, DayZ, Euro Truck Sim 2, BF3, BF:BC2, Sims 3, and some other simulators.

I currently have a Dell 1600x900 IPS and a secondary Dell E198WFP 1440x900.

DELTE2828.PNG?CELL=325%2C325&QLT=85&CVT=dell%20e198wfp.jpg

I'm wondering if I should buy a third monitor (another E198WFP) to create a 4480x900 surround setup, or if I should just stick with my current monitor setup.

Should I go with:

1. 2-way SLI GTX 465s (new motherboard)

2. 3-way SLI GTX 465s with current setup (I will need a new motherboard and a 1000W PSU) (mostly for the lolz)

3. GTX 750 Ti with 1920x1080 monitor

4. GTX 770 4GB with 4480x900 surround

5. GTX 780 3GB with current setup/ maybe 4480x900?

6. GTX 590 3GB with current setup

7. GTX 780 Ti with no games or anything else

I would really like to have some money left over to buy games or just to add to my savings.

I would also like to have some lolz with my  rig, so don't vote based on what would perform best. I'm also not going to consider AMD cards. The only manufacturer I will be using is EVGA @

760 would fit the rest of the build and be a huge upgrade. A 780yi would be a HUGE WASTE for under 1440P, don't even mention under 1080P.

Also, wouldn't a 780ti be bottlenecked by a 6350?

My 6350 can handle a 780 Ti easy

780, then you can downsample 1440p into 900p.

Would that work?

GTX 760 with a 1080p monitor

That or a GTX 770 with a 1080p or even a 1440p monitor. Also, I think Newegg's having a sale (yet again) on one of ASUS's 1920x1080 (1080p) monitors. So those choices are like what, $150 for a 1080p monitor and $250 to $350 for the GPU, you'd have $200 to $300 left for games, something else, like a pair of headphones, a sound card, or better: emergency funds.

Edit: Found the monitors. One's white, so it'll go nicely with your case: the ASUS VX238H-W 23" 1ms monitor, it's only $129.99 after a promo code and rebate which I "failed" with another ASUS monitor since I "didn't" send in the UPC code. I bet they threw it out since I clearly sent in with it taped on a piece of paper bundled with the rest of the rebate stuff; I'll be sure to make copies next time. Here's the black, default one, the ASUS VX238H 23" 1ms monitor.

That's mostly correct, but I'd say that for 1080p, it's not at all a waste, as long as the graphics settings used are at mostly high or ultra.

True, but for most games it won't use it's full potential at 1080P. It's not really a waste though (EPEEN). Oops.

There's no way I'm buying a TN as a main monitor

I voted for two obviously, but it's far from the most sensible choice and also the one I would make personally.

Also EVGA or nothing

Well, excuse me for not knowing that. Anyway, for a TN monitor, those are still good.

Here, picky, an IPS monitor by ASUS, the VS229H-P 21.5" 5ms monitor for $139.86. Oh, and it only comes in one color.

I know, just messing with ya. Still, if you said that to a meaner person, it probably wouldn't go well.

I'd say 770 for 900p surround. your type of games doesnt require an all out high-end card and you already have 2 screens with the same resolution. so buying another monitor with a different res is kinda stupid and 2 or 3 way SLI on GTX4xx also is more for the nerdgasm than the actual use ;) If you can afford it ofc go 780 and a 3rd 1600x900 monitor but if not 770 with a lot of VRAM ;)
