youtube alternative?

let me stsrt off with, using lan isn't possible for my setup its a shared network at home.

i have good internet, but often have 2 days of waiting for uploads of one youtube video at 1080p. this would be fine if youtube had a puase upload button as i could turn the pc off when i am not gaming on it. the first time i uploaded a 2-day video my pc sound was messed up after so i know this is damaging to leave it on so long with no off.

so is there a way to pause uploads or whats an alternative site if not? i do not stream just some light gameplay videos at 1080p 60. i edit before uploading, so don't need a web editor involved. pardon my ignorance if theres a way to pause. of the three videos i've uploaded, 2 required me to upload twice due to failing at unknown point already.

Videos will start to fail around the 2 hour mark or the 2GB mark (32-bit browsers)

If you have a shared network you need to QoS to prioritize streams. Trying to upload to youtube with the web browser will max out your connection without it and render the connection entirely unusable if you don't throttle your own connection just a little bit.

Maybe compress it a little? There's no reason for a 33 minute video to be 30GB. I would expect up to 5GB for a high quality encode of 33 minutes.

You'd be worried about upload speed. Looks like it's a file size issue too though. The old megabites per second and megabits per second might come into play here too..

No, leaving a computer on for two days, or two months, is not damaging to it. If your PC sound was messed up, you have another problem going on.

(although you mentioned using Ubuntu in another post - then having audio problems only sometimes is already a success :P)

As for Youtube alternatives, there are few, such as Vimeo or Dailymotion, but I doubt they're able to provide better, rather than worse, network infrastructure. Not sure if "upload pause" is available on those, but seems unlikely.

As someone who has uploaded oversized videos to youtube on purpose, I can tell you for sure that if you are uploading something >50mbits/s, you probably are doing something wrong, and the encoder on the other side probably is having a fit at 1GB/minute.

In general, if you upload something at an unsupported profile for the codec you used, youtube will just fail on it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Video_Coding

For example, upload a 6.1 profile for 8Kp60. upload a 5.1 profile for 4Kp60, and a 4.1 profile for 1080p60

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en

Quote

image.thumb.png.e63099231c230627198e20710da124f8.png

If you are exceeding these, then the encoder has no guarantee of working.

Another reason for failing is if the encoder is set to a colorspace that does not work. Youtube will not accept 4:4:4, lossy or lossless, and usually just fails the latter.

866 is the speed your driver is reporting between your computer and the next link in the chain (your router and access point). That is not necessarily your effective connection speed to that link (for example, due to dropped packages or other issues), nor your effective internet speed (since there are further links in the chain and eventually the actual speed delivered by your ISP). Plus, there are two speeds, upload and download, and those need not be symmetric (it seems your ISP is indeed providing an asymmetric service).

Hence, all things considered, your efffective upload speed is aroung 5 Mbps (give or take by the difference between connecting to ookla and connecting to Youtube).

ugh no. Your internet connection is 48 down/5 up. Your Wifi connection is internal to devices in your house.

a 5mbit upload connection will quite literately take hours to upload.

I would first suggest just turning it into a 12Mbps file, be that h264 4:2:0 or h265 4:2:0, and then upload it. If you keep trying to upload that file, it will keep failing because something on your side of the connection is not capable of uploading it uninterrupted.

No, I don't think there's such a solution. Your internet connection is what it is.

That is download, though. 4mb/s would mean 32 Mbps down, which is reasonable for a test result of 50Mbps down. Up, however, is more stringent.

5.3 Mbp is approximately 660 KB/s upload speeds. Still, consistent 660 KB/s upload should finish 30GB in somewhat more than 12 hours, still less than a day. For it to take, let's say, 36 hours (a day and a half), upload speeds to Youtube should average ~240 KB/s or  equivalently 1.9 Mbps.

You should transcode the video to a lower bit rate after you record it. I'd recommend using Handbrake or FFmpeg.

You see that 71880 bitrate? That's basically lossless. You don't want that. It's even more pointless when you consider that Youtube will take your 30GB file and compress it down to like, 600MB.

Either record from the get go at a lower bitrate or process the video file through a video editing software and encode it down to something more manageable.

Drop that down to something like 12000 kbps. It will cut the file size by a TON and will barely affect the video quality.

https://filmora.wondershare.com/video-editing-tips/what-is-video-bitrate.html

Bit unrelated, but just to give you an idea, the maximum bitrate for streaming on Twitch is 6000 kbps. Video quality looks fine.
