so ive been looking at prices, motherboard connectivity and more important overclock capabilities and i would like hear your opinions

is intel's i7 10700k is worth the extra money over amd's 3800x?

ive been going back and forth between those 2 since the 10th gen launched

like i said, the 2 main reasons that i want to go with intel is the overclocking capabilities and the motherboard connectivity and availability in my country

we all know that amd cant really beat intels ovreclock capabilities as the 10700k and 10900k can easily hold a 5ghz+ overclock with perfect performance and on the other hand, amd's gpu are not that good when it comes to overclocks

my other concern is the motherboard connectivity that is very good on the z490 but not that good on the x570.(usb ports) (and the fact that there are A LOT of z490 mbs and not A LOT x570 mbs that are not available in my country is not really helping)

is intel really worth the extra money?

for amd u should be looking at b550 instead of x570 right now, if u wanna save money on gaming while going intel it'd be the 10600k, i'd go with the 10600k over the 3700x or 3800x , the problem is the 3600 just can't be beat for budget builds. That being said, 95% of the time there's no diff between the 10700k and 10600k.

 

If i had to put together a 1k build right now it'd be with a 3600+2070s, while a 2k build would probably be like 10600k or 10700k+2080s/ ti (not saying building now is a great idea), the extra 2 cores on the 10900k is basically extra heat over the 10700k

yeah i just looked at b550 borads. there is no way im going with the x570 chipset now after i saw what the b550 boards have to offer. its way way way better

no, i actually have 1k just for the trio

i already have a gpu, psu, storage, cooling and a case

but in israel, you wont get too far with 1k even if its for the trio...

but i would like those 2 extra cores and 4 extra threads since im also editing and it would be way better with the 10700k, plus, this cpu will serve for the next 6 to 7 or even 8 years so i rather get the extra 2c and 4t

IMO the 10700k is not worth it, if you want the 8-core 16-thread productivity benefits get a R7 3700x. If you want top end gaming performance get the 10600k and OC it + tune memory, it will perform like the 10900k. And it's not like the R7 3700x/3800XT are shit gaming CPU's either. You can't really OC them but you can OC and tune your memory, its a different/new way of squeezing performance out of your system.

 

I have been very happy with my 3800x for mostly heavy threaded workloads but I also game at 1440p.

Most motherboard vendors have dedicated more time and money into AMD right now so the motherboards are very good overall, low stock is likely due to high demand and low stock re-supply because of covid.

im talking about usb 3.0 and above ports.

i see a lot of mbs with 2 and even 4 usb 2.0 ports and it drives me crazy.

why would someone need 4 usb 2.0 ports in 2020???????????

and they come over more 3.0 and above ports

i see a lot of motherboards with just 4 usb 3.0 and above ports

4 ports is exactly my minimum number of ports that i need.

2 for the keyboard since it freaks out when connected to a 2.0 port and 1 for the headset so now im left with one, nice

 my current z77x d3h has 6 usb 3.0 ports and it does come in handy.

Honestly I need more now because of stupid RGB controllers etc. I've had to buy USB 2.0 internal splitters for 2 of my builds now. It makes sense, trust me the manufactures know what they are doing.

External USB 3.0/3.1 connectors are easier to get away with having less on the rear IO, half my stuff is plugged into a hub anyway.

3700x better value, also only 10600 cpus makes sense on intel side unless AMD is out of stock or inflated prices.

intel is just better when it come to it.

the max turbo on the 10600k is 4.8ghz but im sure it can handle a 5ghz overclock

For overclocking 10600K all the way, the 10700K if you just wanna go faster and burn dollar bills as gasoline replacement then it will be the perfect CPU for you, also power consumption is higher... :) (the last one never stopped me from getting a GPU or CPU before so...)

but what about the 10600k at 5ghz since ill most likely be running it at this clock, vs the 3700x or 3800x

im not referring to the xt variants since they are almost at the price of the 10700k and if i decided to go with the 10600k it wont be a fair comparison in terms of prices

Most motherboard vendors have dedicated more time and money into AMD right now so the motherboards are very good overall, low stock is likely due to high demand and low stock re-supply because of covid.

games: csgo, gta v, wd2, valorant, little bit of fortnite(little bro) anarea battle royale, warzone, need for speed heat+payback

software: premiere pro and after effect renders at 1080p/1440p 60fps just need the cpu to ba able to render at this res so the final product wont be a laggy video like ,y i5 3550 does it now :/

I have a hard time putting together a build where someone wants max gaming potential and not going with the 3600 and a high end GPU (as high as possible).  It just doesnt make sense to splurge on the CPU at anything less than 1500 honestly.  Even then, a 3600 can keep up with a 2080 super;  I really wouldnt even be thinking about intel unless my GPU situation was already maxed.  There is no room in a "low" budget build to be adding in 100+ in CPU costs when it contributes so little at that price point.  Every dollar should be in GPU.  Once you are entering top tier GPU territory - thats when I would consider intel (where its true potential is)

i have a 2080 aorus and im sure its good enought, plus, if the 3080 will be within a reasonable price i would think about selling my 2080 and adding a bit for that 3080.

Extra 2 cores with a much higher frequency, and hyper threading is a pretty big upgrade. If you game at 1080p then it would hugely benefit, at 1440p it's more GPU bound but it still would make a difference.

2 for the keyboard since it freaks out when connected to a 2.0 port and 1 for the headset so now im left with one, nice

 my current z77x d3h has 6 usb 3.0 ports and it does come in handy.

Because USB 2.0 ports and PS2 ports help overclockers use older versions of windows to achieve maximum performance.

 

Do you know how hard it is to run windows xp on USB 3.1 ports?? 

 

Hitting the market on all fronts is good stuff.

 

Occasionally I like to use my Ageia Physx card. Unfortunately, I have to run it with legacy hardware. I can't just slap it in and run it.

 

Eventually USB 2.0 won't be seen on boards. Just a matter of time.

To me the only reason to buy intel is if you're planning to OC to 5ghz and need the cpu to play older titles that really like high clock speed

 

If you're on 1440P, most games are already GPU bottleneck, so the money saved on going amd can be spent on better GPU, or better RAM that will improve minimum fps

 

In general when you're spending on amd with the same amount of cores and end up 2 builds costing the same, you can get better frames on amd because of better gpu

i will be running whateven cpu o would buy at its max freq.

if its intel 10th gen, 10600k 0r 10700k i will be running them at 5ghz+

and what about intel's turbo boost max technology 3.0

does it amke a big difference?

if its amd then ill just overclock it to the max.

my gpu is a 2080 aorus, decent enought.

i think ill go with the 10600k and after prices drop ill maybe sell it  and add a little bit for a 10700k.

Well with current improvement for zen 3, amd most likely will perform as well or better than intel with higher clock speed

for me is actually not worth the time waiting for new cpus.

that is actually the reason i bought a 2080 about a month ago.

i thought about waiting for the new zen 3 cpus that they said will be announced in July/August but then they delayed it to September and when they'll be available to purchase it will probably be October or even November so im spending 1000$ on a pc that ill enjoy for 3 and a half months and when i will get to use it daily it will already be 3 years old :/ 

so its either now or in 3 years... and from what i get now with my i5 3550 and 2080 i actually want an upgrade right now and since i will be overclocking, im ending up going with intel

If I had to buy now it would be the i7 10700k since it is a cheaper i9 9900k and I think it will be better to have 8 cores in three years than 6.

 

For me what is coming out in the future does not matter. If I need it now I get what is available now and the i7 10700k is.

those are the prices in my country:

the 10600k is 338 dollars

the 10700k is 508 dollars

230 dollars more just for 2 extra cores and 4 extra threads

if im going amd ill get a 3700x and b550 aorus elite. it will be cheaper but i wont get high overclock capabilities like i can with intel and thats very important to me.

i can overclock a 10600k to 5.1ghz stable while the 3700x is pretty much maxed at 4.4ghz.

my plan is to get the 10600k and watch the prices of the 10700k and 10900k.

if in a year or 2 the prices of these 2 cpus will drop, ill sell my 10600k and get probably a 10900k to max out my motherboard.

thats if 11th gen will have a different socket or if they'll be very expensive.

if 11th and 12th gen will still be on lga1200 ill consider getting the i7 option of those gens.
