That Crystal Ball is broken - what you got atm.?

What can you afford, now?

Can I realistically call myself a gamer, if I only play ONE, twenty year old game...?

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

There’s a whole lotta weirdness going on with amphere atm.  My current plan myself is to wait for big Navi and make a decision then

RTX 2070 Super

When did you get it & are you confident enough if your ability to 'flip' it?

There most likely won’t be a 3080 super. Either 3080 and 3080 to or 3090

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Unless there is because that quasi HSB stuff turns out to work well.  It’s a big mess

I bought it about a year ago I. I can sell my RTX 2070 Super whenever I like, probably after I got the new GPU though.

OK; what does your 2070 NOT do that you'd like it to do?

Bear in mind that prices of 2070's may well take a dump when 30xx get released, diminishing the resale value of your 2070...

Might not need to.  It’s looking from some directions like nvidia is doing another minimum performance maximum cost update and a 2070s might be the same speed or close to a 3070.  There are wildly different opinions.  It’s all up in the air

I want higher fps and better DXR performance.

IMHO, 'a year' is too soon to flip a graphics card, unless you can buy one with pocket change/money...

In that case, you'd probably have a 2080ti, anyway...

Do you have a 4K monitor, by any chance, with a 60+fps capability?

If so, you DO know a 2080 would struggle with that much output...

... then a 2070 Super is more than enough - hekk, my Vega 56 could drive that kind of output (G-sync, aside).

wait for big Navi

I have had ATi cards in the past, no issues back then.

These days a lot of people have many problems with AMD GPU's and/or with AMD drivers.

Since I have a G-Sync monitor I'll stay with nvidia for now, also never had any issues with nvidia GPU's.

the tdp for top end ampere is 350w, and judging from what we know with turing, it highly likely means that rdna2 is a big leap, i expect nvidia to retain the crown but there will be competition in the high end, so don't sleep on amd.

My expectation for ampere atm is 20% more cuda cores for the money, 10-15% clock speed bump (doesn't scale linearly), increased dxr efficiency (rumored +200-300%), and still a buncha bs marketing surrounding RTX, it'll likely come in below  consensus expectations.

That's just a rumour though, isn't it?

I really don't see them pulling a GTX 480 tbh.

I’m not buying th “beware the drivers!” Stuff.  Nvidia and AMD both have problems with drivers.  They just have them at different times. AMD has been messing about with navi21 since the consoles were designed.  Nvidia on the whole gets their driver messes sorted out faster than AMD does because they’re a lot bigger, but they have the same problems.  This time around Nvidia will have the newer less worked on design. A lot of it hinges on how good amphere is.  Reports have varied from “a whole lot better” to “barely better than a minimal upgrade”. “A whole lot better” Might make it worth while, but it’s pretty questionable atm.  If they do the same POS stuff offering barely improved cards at higher prices I see no reason not to give them a miss.
