AMD 5600 XT questions and first time build help

wegoodtbh
Go to solution Solved by 5x5,

The drivers are fine, the issues are very old and have been fixed. As for what to buy, the 5600 XT performs similarly to a 2060 so it's a very clear choice if you ask me.

Ok everyone so I am about to finish my build (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Kd8gMc) but I need to choose a graphics card. So I originally bought a 1660 super to go with then i saw there was a deal for the 5600 xt for 259.99 after $20 rebate on newegg. I really wanted to get the 5600 xt originally but I read about horrible issues with drivers and such and that steered me away, but when I saw that price it had me thinking. Should I go for the 1660 Super or the 5600 xt?

And if I do go for the 5600 xt which is the most stable/best card to buy?

These are the 5600 xt cards I was considering:

if you wont go 5600

The RX 5600XT had driver issues when it was first launched but they're fixed now. The 5600XT is faster for gaming than a 1660 Super, but the 1660 Super has a Nvenc encoder which helps if you're going to be streaming your games.

The 5600 XT beats the pants off the 1660. It's no contest. Driver issues have been largely resolved. If you have a choice, I'd recommend the Sapphire PULSE. It's has the among the best performance of the 5600 XTs and also some of the best thermals (not all are created equal). The Gigabyte version is actually an underperformer. Not horrible, just middling performance and thermals. Not familiar with ASRock version.

Out of the four 5600 XT cards, the 3x fan Gigabyte 5600XT or the AsRock Phantom Gaming D3 is the way to go.

The AsRock Challenger cooler is really loud, doesn't cool as well, and it's a lower tier cooler design vs the Phantom and Red Devil versions.

EDIT:

The Sapphire Pulse 5600 XT is also uses a really good cooler; definitely one of the top ~5 GPU coolers.

Ok y'all so you see the problem is I just bought the Gigabyte windforce model lol, should I try to cancel it and get a different card or nah, it's 259 after rebate. Also this would be about the 5th time during my build where I've canceled something and bought it again. Please advise. I could use the extra money for a wifi card or something.

I would. Check out this video:

The Windforce makes the list of the worst 5600 XT cards, due to fan noise and bad thermals. Interestingly Gigabyte makes another card, the Gaming OC, which is a top pick, alongside the Sapphire PULSE, though the Sapphire still beats it out.

It's just $20 more for the Sapphire on Amazon, no rebate required. That seems worth it.

Even then, you'd be better going for a 2060 KO. It's about the same as the 5600 XT (5600 XT edges it out in most games, but just barely) and then you get the GPU encoding too. I would have went that direction myself, but it's got an inferior cooler compared to the 5600 XT and only one DP, one HDMI, and a useless DVI port.

The windforce is shit. Get the Pulse. Also, avoid the EVGA KO cards - the cooler is one of the worst available, even worse than the 5600 Windforce from gigabyte. The 2060 KO has heat and noise issues that mean you either run the card at 90*C or it sounds like a vacuum at 80*C

Hey I just wanted to update everyone thanks for all your help. I canceled the gigabyte order and got the sapphire pulse model instead. I'm happy I did because it's the same price as the gigabyte model without the rebate, and who really has the time to wait for it to come back. I just have to wait an extra day but I think it will be well worth it, and now I have Amazon's return policy instead of Neweggs crappy policy, thank you all
