CX-M CX450M enough for Ryzen 3200g and Rx570 8b?

Yeah, it's enough

 

RX 570 uses up to around 180-200 watts on 12v, 3200g goes to maybe 60-80w , the rest of your system won't use over 25-50w.

 

So you need around 300-350w on 12v.

 

Manufacturers recommend higher wattage power supplies because a lot of power supplies from no-name manufacturers lie about their capabilities and don't actually supply the advertised number of watts, or that number of watts is split between the three main voltages a power supply produces : 3.3v , 5v and 12v.

So for example, you could have a psu say it can do 450 watts, but 100 watts is reserved on 3.3v, 100 watts is reserved on 5v, and only the rest of 250 watts is usable on 12v ... so such psu wouldn't work with your computer that needs 300+ watts at peak for your processor and video card, because you'll hit the 250 watts limit.

 

The psu you plan to get can output almost all those 450 watts on the 12v wires if needed, so you'll have plenty of margin.

Hey all!

 

I'm buying the parts to finish my mid range build tomorrow. According the pcpartpicker.com, the

system will use ~350 watts. I have no use for overclocking and I live in Canada where it's usually not extremely hot, and when it does

get stuffy, I have an air conditioner right next to my desk and a case that has great airflow, so overheating shouldn't be an issue right? Anyways, the Rx570's recommends 450w or more.

I will be playing games like R6 and CSGO on Max and Just Cause 3/4 and Medium-High ish. I will also play indie games like FTL, Kerbal Space Program, and other games

from the Xbox Game Pass PC. Will the 450w CXM get fried?

EDIT: If they have it in stock, Ill be getting the 3100x instead of the 3200.

Thank you for not being over dramatic about a budget PSU like some forums I know and understanding that not everyone has the use for a $250 God Level PSU. I'll wait for some more answers but your answer has pointed me in the direction of buying it.

I was writing up pretty much the same thing that @mariushm said, only they posted first and did a better job explaining it.
You're good to go with the CX450M 👍

Averaging around 150W while gaming and peaks up to 200W.

 

You could also look up power consumption tests for the CPU you're planning to buy as the CPU and GPU are the most power demanding parts of a system and that will give you a very rough idea of how much power your system will consume, but with a Ryzen 3 3200G or 3100X which should only consume around 60 or 70W under load you have plenty of room for margin with a 450W power supply.

 

As mentioned already graphics card manufacturers tend to overestimate on their PSU wattage requirements. They don't know what the rest of the system is so it's pretty hard (impossible) for them to recommend what wattage is required. If you had a power hungry CPU like a Threadripper 3990X and an RX570 your power requirements would be drastically different. They also don't know what power supply you have whether it's a junk "450W" that can only provide 200W on the 12V rail (12V is what graphics cards use) or if it's a high quality 450W that can output the full 450W on the 12V rail. You can pretty much ignore what the card manufacturers say about what wattage PSU is required.
