Ryzen 3600x vs Intel i7 8700k

My friend is 3d animator and use cinema 4d, maya, adobe premier, after effects, solidworks. He think that is ryzen 3600x or i7 8700k good choices, but not sure whats better or maybe there is better cpu for this range of money.

For this money he should get a 3700x or of the budget allows for a few $ more the 3900x. Both will crush either of them in these workloads.

The 8700K's 3 years old, it shouldn't even be considered in 2020.

They'll be similar at stock speeds. Go for the 3600 non-X though, if these are your only options.

That's not how it works 

Slower frequency doesn't matter in this case 

The 3700x has better ipc than both of these not to mention it has the extra cores and still boosts to a respectable frequency

3600X gets a bit higher frequency than non X. But the gained performance is not worth it. If he has the budget for a 8700K then he should get a 3700x instead. If the budget is tighter get the 3600 NON X. It's still better in most tasks than the 8700K.

Afaik the 3600X isn't even binned, it's just that it comes with a slightly better stock cooler compared to the regular 3600, meaning it will boost ever so slightly higher but it won't make a noticeable difference.

The 3700X boosts similarly, and the more threads you throw at Cinema 4D the better it runs. At least from my experience.

I mean I'm not sure but I don't think they'd bother binning a 6-core tbh. The price bump is mostly just the slightly better box cooler I reckon.

The 3700X boosts similarly, and the more threads you throw at Cinema 4D the better it runs. At least from my experience.

Either binned or over abundance of chips. One of the 2.
