replacing isp router, what's the best gaming router?

diabloinfinnity

what would be the best option to replace my isp router?

dual core 1.8 or a quadcore 1.5 is that the best metric to go off?

what should one consider when purchasing a gaming router?

these are the two i was comparing.

any help would be great thanks.

TP-Link has always been cheaper but never under performing. Plus the TP-Link Archer has WiFi-6 so it'll be fast as long as you get a wifi-6 compatible network card or motherboard.

My sole recommendation, if possible, just hard wire up with an ethernet cable. At that point the router doesn't really matter all that much. If you're planning on playing FPS games online and such wifi is never the way to go. But if so I'd go with the Asus and if you wanna save go with TP-Link.

-> Moved to Networking

***

"Gaming" in here, as in many other places, is mainly marketing term. It's flashy UI (check LTT video about some Asus router) to give same features pretty much all of same price range would have.

I've had Buffalo and TP-Link routers die on me. Currently with local brand, Telewell. I was thinking about getting Asus or Netgear next. But I look for features and reviews rather than branding.

Is your ISP router a modem/router? or is your WAN of your router directly connected to an internet socket, or a separate modem?

If the first, then you'll either need a modem/router, possibly ADSL/VDSL2 depending on your ISP plan. or a separate modem + router instead.
