Is it worth it for 32gb of ram for just gaming and multiple other tasks?

(Note that i don't have my pc built yet)

I have 16gb of ddr4 3000Mhz ram. I will be having a game open and multiple browser windows open for school when i need to switch back to homework when my mom walks in and multiple rgb softwares and overclocking softwares open. i will also have apps like spotify and stuff open. i see on multiple youtube videos that fortnite uses about 7gb of ram which is almost half. should i upgrade to 32gb?

You will do fine with 16gb of RAM, id be more concerned about cpu usage

Upgrade to 32 if you have the expendable money, want the bragging rights, and potential future proofing / or to maybe even use in other systems

CPU: i5-4690k @ 4.4 GHz | RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333MHz | GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 580 4GB

For gaming 16Gb is enough for almost all current games. I would get 16Gb and if you find that you are actually using all 16Gb, you can always get another 16Gb kit.

16GB can be enough.

If you have the budget and are a heavy multitasker it might help, but not really with the apps you describe. For that you will need high RAM usage apps.

Oh and listen to yo mom! :P

There's no performance benefit to having it use a quarter of your memory instead of half of it. You only need more RAM once you approach 100% usage.

Will the usage be high with an i5 9600kf? or could i upgrade to an i9 9900k? oh and i do have money for the ram but i wanted to see if just 16gb was enough so i can expand my budget for more ssd storage

after using 16gb for almost 2 years, 16gb is barely not enough imho with anything in the background, for my use case, i always have a program that takes about 1gb open, then add a twitch stream and some chrome tabs and i'd have to close either the twitch stream or chrome to launch a AAA game.

on top of this most AAA shooters do benefit from a 4x8 config, but it's not something i'd worry with anything below a 9700k/10600k. if i had to build something for gaming right now it'd be with a 10600k/10700k +4x8 cl14 3600.

I'm actually waiting for zen 3 though, not a fan of having a cpu at 200w+ load, regardless of temps.
