Hard or soft mousepad?

732

Hello,

So I...uh...lost my old mousepad, and I'm looking to buy another one.

What's the difference between hard and soft mousepads? In terms of accuracy in fps games and such.

Also wondering if it's worth it to buy an extended mousepad.

Thanks!

"hi 911? my grandma is on the floor and shes not responding to anything"
"have you tried turning it off and on again?"

In my experience, hard mousepads are cheaper and they are also garbage, after a while they just deform. Soft mousepads are 10 cents more expensive and just last a longer time. Now i can't really say anything about extended mousepads because i don't exactly have one but if i were to get one it would be to cover up the mess i made with superglue.

Mousepads are more personal preference, the accuracy depends more specifically on the material of the mousepad, extended mouse pads will give you move room to move the mouse if you have the desk space, although whether it is worth it for you depends if you need/want that range of movement enough to justify the extra expense.

Hope this information post was helpful  ?,

I've been using soft pads pretty much all my life, until now I got a CM RGB Hard Surface mat... and I like it a lot! it feels like I have more control over the mouse and it feels a hell of a lot smoother.

I'd go glass mousepad first, or if you want a mouse mat (to protect the desk)...

Well you see, I've been using a 5 inch mousepad for my entire life, so...

It's okay, man.  it's not the size, it's how you use it :)

Yeah, you may want to upgrade to something larger, what mouse are you using?

Hey there. I think I remember hearing that laser mice worked better on hard mousepads, and that optical mice worked better on cloth ones/both types? Not sure whether mousepad material affects FPS accuracy by much (not an FPS gamer, can't say).

I can say that the cheapo, brand-less cloth mousepad I bought years ago is still serving me quite well to this date, and that prior to it, I remember using a hard mousepad that was comparably less durable and had a way shorter lifespan. A year or two at best, maybe, littered with cracks along the edges and scratches/bends on the surface.

I guess I'll go with the Steelseries QcK Medium.

Cheaper? They're more expensive in general though. Not sure which ones you saw of both. Those that can deform are probably just plastic ones. There are those with aluminum base, also glass pads those cost well too. In my experience cloth wears faster though hard pad wears skates faster.

Depends on you and your use. Hard pads will feel faster and much more smooth. So depends on your mouse sens if it dits for you and all that.

I have always liked the desk mats the best. I am kind of digging having a matching mouse mat, desktop background and keycaps. I have used "gaming" mouse pads before, I didnt feel like I was a better gamer or anything. I did have alot of trouble getting the qck heavy I tried to lay flat. It is a year old and has been ironed, left under heavy books, etc and still doesnt lay flat.

Just get a mat/pad that looks nice with your setup.
