I think there is one issue, and a few downsides.

The issue is airflow, will it be good enough.  Though making a good decision on which case to get will assist with that.

The rest are downsides related to space, layout, ease of building and features.

I bought a cheap case recently, I picked it based on airflow more than anything, and it has great airflow.  The problem was the build was harder than it should have been.  The cable routing and management was difficult and annoying at times.

My board supports 6 SATA connections, but I can't for the life of me fit more than 3 HDD in the system with an SSD stuck to a random area.

Doing anything on the board, changing GPUs, changing RAM, reseting the bios, are all more difficult than it was in my old far larger case.

Those are my thoughts on cheap cases.  Though to be fair, you can spend a lot of money and face the same issues.

I watched a LOT of Gamers Nexus case reviews, found a case that had good airflow that I liked the look of and got that.

The cheapest case I can buy from my retailer is junk. There are a lot of affordable mATX cases made for airflow. They perform well and are silent. I have the NR400 and the silverstone RL08. I recommend both. The downside will likely be that you might need to buy extra fans. I had to buy extra fans for my RL08.

Just build your pc in the motherboard box and cut some holes out for the fans

Mx330 is a nice choice then.

Usually goes for 50$ and has decent airflow.

If your system can run at full power (your most stressful workload or game) and the CPU and GPU dont overheat, then you have enough airflow.
