Rust has suffered stutters on a variety of different systems for years now.  The communities consensus changes but they generally recommend lots of ram. What is your ram usage like?

That's where I would start with fixing the problem.  They're relatively cheap these days and will generally "speed" your PC up.

What resolution and at what settings?  What network connection?  All of these are factors.

My guess, you are running a single DIMM (Ram stick) - yeah or no?

Likely the 8gb of RAM (which RUST says foots the bill at the barest of minimum), coupled with an HDD reacting to online textures being asked to be brought up on the screen.

That will help - until a sprite is required to show up on the screen and the HDD now has to spool up and find it and put it within the memory.  What that helps with, is the latency between Windows dumping something from the RAM, to make room for that new thing (with 16gb you shouldn't need to make room for newly appearing sprites like you are now).  But there will be latency when pulling something from a spinning hard drive based off a network request (online games are online games)

  • 1 month later...

Hello!

Before 3-4 months I upgraded my pc to rtx 2060 6gb and amd ryzen 7 2700x and I have 8gb ram no ssd beacuse I have 450mb/s write/read hdd.

So I have random freezings is it because of ram? I just ordered 8gb more ram 3200mhz hyperx. I just want to be sure is it because lacks of ram or not?

Because my old pc I had 40-50 fps with 12gb ram no freezes and now I have 150-170 fps with freezes.

What speed is your current RAM?

Rust is a poorly optimized game anyway.

What timings? What voltages? It's a lot more complicated than just 'changing the speed to 3333Mhz'.

What HDD do you have that has 450MB/s read/write speeds? o.O

Anyway RUST is quite heavy on RAM and with only 8GB of RAM I would hazard a guess that it's running out of memory and is relying on the pagefile, which is hitting the much, much, much slower HDD. Even if you have a HDD with 450MB/s sequential read/write speeds the random access times on spinning drives are significantly slower than an SSD and incredibly slower than RAM.

You can keep an eye on your RAM usage in game with task manager, HWinfo64, MSI afterburner, etc...

well if you think it's RAM, what's the RAM usage like? is it near 90-95%?

Then wait for the extra 8GB stick you ordered, it should definitely help.

Also, get an SSD.
