NZXT H510 Fan config and choosing fans

Hello all,

 

My case is the NZXT H510 and i was wondering what is the optimal fan configuration for this case for keeping temps low? I have heard and read so many different answers online with some tests showing the rear and top exhaust is the best while some show populating all fan slots with 2 front intake and 2 exhaust at the top and rear being the best. Also considering this case is pretty restricted airflow wise compared to most cases what would be the best fan choice for quiet operation yet adequate enough for a ryzen 3600 with the arctic esports 34 and 2060 super FE?

Adding to the above, they also use a similar size cooler with similarly heat-generating components (their GPU is probably a bit more hungry than yours, actually). So you should be able to figure out how you will perform fairly well based on that.

Am watching the video now again and will update with what i take away from the video. On the other question of choosing new fans, as i find the stock fans to be too loud, would the be quiet silent wings 3 (non high speed)  be adequate for the H510 as we know its not the most free flowing cases? lol

if you connect the fans to your motherboard you should be able to turn fan speed down in bios. It's very hard to make a gaming PC quiet. I suggest experimenting with fan curves in bios and spend your money on over ear headphones.

oh yeah im aware of that but you can get quieter fans than the stock ones . I know i cant get anywhere near silent but i would like it if i didnt have to listen to a jet engine

I'd go Corsair ML or Noctua NF if you want really quiet fans. I own both, love both, ML's are my favorite though.

Thanks for the tip, i am new to the forum and this is much appreciated. I assume these two suggestions of your push more air in comparison to the be quiet silent wings 3 at the cost of some noise but is the difference in noise that noticeable compared to the better airflow they provide? Also do noctua not offer the NF in black as i hate their design colours.

No worries!

 

TBH I have not owned any Be Quiet fans, but the ML and NF fans are very quiet, probably the 'quietest' fans out there. I perceive the ML fans to be quieter, and they look better, either in all black, static LED, RGB, or in a 2-pack option, they come in many flavors, I own them all haha. The Noctua's come in a chromax edition which is all black, I too hate their puke brown fans.

 

As for moving air, they will be the similar at lower RPM, the ML's are a little more static pressure optimized so IF you have them spinning at higher RPM they will pull more air in. Which is good for a case like the H510 with its blocked front panel.

Just take in mind that air moving through obstacles is whats making most of the noise produced by fans. Youll get a better result by cutting out the poorly designed mesh from back and top fan slot than buying better over-priced fans. Optimal finger guard noise-wise is the round wire one but back exhaust fan rarely needs a finger guard unless you are running high speed finger cutting fans

I'd do 2-3 intake fans, 1-2 exhaust fans.

Wut lol? If you get static pressure optimized fans for intake it would make a difference.

so my take away from this is static pressure optimised fans and its worth adding two front intakes?

 

Some tests with this case did show that adding two front intake fans make zero difference with temps on this case which is why im on the edge about if i should or shouldnt bother with them

Yes, two static pressure optimized fans for intake would be beneficial.

SW3's would be fine. What are your current load temps?

I can't remember off the top of my head but i will get back with the load temps once i get the chance to get the temps.

 

What's the difference between the pure wings 2 and the silent wings 3, are the silent wings 3 more quiet and also move more air or do the pure wings 2 sacrifice noise for moving more air?

SW3's are quieter, have better static pressure, and tend to last longer.

Why are you looking at these fans in particular?

I was looking at be quiet as i know them for being the most quiet case fans, i would like near silence but i wouldnt like to give up performance really so im trying to get more airflow or at least the same airflow while lowering the noise as my pc is under an arms length away from me.

 

Looking at it the stock fans are pretty similar to the pure wings 2 except are louder, they push the same amount of CFM so i switching the fans wouldnt really do much in the way of improved airflow

If you don't mind the price, NF-S12A's are quieter.

im trying not to spend too much and dont mind some noise, i just would like to not listen to a jet engine.

 

The fan curves i have set in the bios of my mobo (asus b450-F) to silent and the cpu fan has just been left on normal, maybe i just need to tweak the fan curve correctly to see if that makes the sound any better tho i doubt it unless i give up some performance/increase thermals?

Definitely tweak your fan curves first. You may be able to decrease noise without worse thermals.

Do you have any advice to give to a complete beginner when tuning fan curves for good performance and noise or a video which could help explain it?

 

my bios has a auto tuner for the fans but i dont trust it as i read it was pretty terrible

Which motherboard? Some auto-tuners help properly detect the rpm ranges. 

I'd recommend lowering all fan speeds to as low as they run and start slowly raising them until they get noticeably noisier. You can use that as the minimum rpm for the fans. From then on, you can have them go up to 80-100% rpm at 70-85c for the cpu depending on your preference. For the curve, linear can work fine but finding the sweet spots for each fan can take some testing.

My bad. Asus' Fan Tuning is often needed to properly register the rpm ranges so do that first before tweaking the curves. It may also take a few runs to work properly.
