Long-lasting Gaming PC build

Budget (including currency): X<$2500

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Literally any game I want to play, with no problem. I don't Program, nor do I stream.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

do you think there is anything I should change? last time I built a PC was 8+ yrs ago. Don't plan on having to change anything for the foreseeable future.

(DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE LOOK, ONLY FUNCTIONALITY)

9900k will do a tad better for gaming only workloads, thats the only real alternate route I am seeing.

If you are going AMD, grab an X570 board.  There are some in the $150 price bracket.

There is no guarantee it will last 8 years nor do we know how the hardware will age, we cannot predict the future.

But I recommend a few changes:

Go X570, nothing to potentially upgrade to with B450.

Get CL16 RAM, you'd be better of with a 3200MHz CL16 kit than a 3600MHz CL18 kit.

No need for the Meshify S2 unless you plan to custom loop. It will look empty.

Otherwise it looks good.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we are starting to get to the point where 16gb of RAM is filling up.  I blame game distribution platforms and all of the crap they run in the background.

yeah the the 12gb needed just for chrome

XD. but if anything I think I can just get 2 more 8gb sticks right?

2x16 is also a thing, not 100% sure there is a performance benefit either way because some high capacity modules are electrically the same as two DIMMs on one PCB.

Its easier for the mainboard to run 2 sticks at its related capacity than 4 but some mainboard manufacturers have very specific lists were you can look up if 4x8 runs at its rated frequency

I recommend buying all the ram you need in a single kit, mix matching even the same exact kits with DDR4 can sometimes have issues. I would recommend either a 4x8GB or a 2x16GB kit.

Main Desktop: CPU - i9-14900k | Mobo - Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 | GPU - ASUS TUF Gaming OC RTX 4090 RAM - Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 64GB 3600mhz | AIO - H150i Pro XT | PSU - Corsair RM1000X | Case - Phanteks P500A Digital - White | Storage - Samsung 970 Pro M.2 NVME SSD 512GB / Sabrent Rocket 1TB Nvme / Samsung 860 Evo Pro 500GB / Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2tb Nvme / Samsung 870 QVO 4TB  |

TV Streaming PC: Intel Nuc CPU - i7 8th Gen | RAM - 16GB DDR4 2666mhz | Storage - 256GB WD Black M.2 NVME SSD |

Depending on how the higher cap modules are wired, two sticks can appear to be four as far as the memory controller is concerned.  Im not 100% sure at what capacity current DDR4 transitions to dual rank, but it is worth doing a bit of research on before pulling the trigger on 16gb modules.

16gb is the highest single rank as far as I know the TridentZ 16 gb are single rank

Yeah, I just remember when the 16gb modules came out there were both.  Though I suppose that as more high density chips come along that most would end up being SR instead of DR.

I would wait a bit more until Nvidia's 3000 cards get released and not waste 2500$ yet, since the RTX line up is just a refresh of the GTX. I mean I'd prefer my build too last long with a GPU like 3080 or 3080Ti.

The only way to keep your hardware current is to not change how you use it.

If you buy the best parts for this years games they will at some point be the minimum specs for the newest games.

My pc in my sig will last me 5 years as I don’t plan to buy any games that will need more than a moderate GPU upgrade will handle, even if I go 1440p.

My rig has done 18 months so far and was planned to be in use till end of 2023 at least.

If you really want a PC to last 8 years then buy the best you can afford and lower expectations for what experience it will deliver in 5 years, unless you don’t buy AAA titles once you cant run them satisfactorily.
