So right now I have a mediocre OEM computer that I try to run basic games like league of legends, minecraft, starcraft so on, with about 20-30 fps at minimum settings. Running another program like skype or team speak in the background makes things much worse. The specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 551

2 Gb of DDR, 200 mhz memory

windows XP 32 bit

GTS 450

I've heard good things about upgrading to a new GTX 750 Ti and getting massive fps improvments, so I'm wondering if I would see the same incrase or if my other part would bottle neck it. Also if that would effect the problem of other programs slowing it down more. Also upgarding to more memory is not an opption because my computer will not run with any more than 2 Gb, apparently a mobo defect.

Thanks a bunch.

Your CPU and probably also RAM are already bottlenecking the GTS450....

You will get improvements by upgrading.

It will be bottlenecked quite a bit by the cpu.

Also if that would effect the problem of other programs slowing it down more. Also upgarding to more memory is not an opption because my computer will not run with any more than 2 Gb, apparently a mobo defect.

Not sure what you mean here.

I wouldn't bother mate, save up and start from scratch, your current video card is going to waste in that system

Ur ram is ddr! Also windows xp 32 bit might have driver issues. I think that money would go a long way towards a new system. You could reuse the graphics card and possibly the drive. You might not need a os because linux is compatible with a lot of games. So to answer your question a 750 ti would be a bad use of money.

This.

GTS 450 should be able to run League of Legends on high at 60+ fps no problem. You won't get anything by upgrading to GTX 750 ti.

Why is half of your text white and the other half is black?

Nah. It may help increase performance but you will not experience the full potential of that GTX 750 Ti anyway.

Ok so would just upgradign the mobo, cpu and momory and leaving everything else work? I can get a new version of windows 7 and wipe the old hard drive because its fast enough for me. Would the PSU have enough power? Ill pull out the computer and look at it but Im using it to write this so two posts.

Your problem is your CPU not your GPU, get a new CPU/Motherboard/RAM

Dude, you have a killer system, from 2004.

I think it's is time to let go.  She has been great but time for a new machine.

But I cant afford a whole new system T_T

Would this PSU be able to keep up with a CPU thats on par with my graphics card?

PS thats the psu I have right now thats why im asking

Dont waste your money , your current gpu is allready being bottlenecked by lack of system memory, not even getting to that CPU . additionally XP has 2 months left of support. I also wouldn't recommend useing a 5 + year old power supply with new system parts.

you need a whole new system , any money spend on that relic would be money down the drain.

Use this to calculate power usage:

http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

With new CPU goes new motherboard and ram so it is almost a completely new system. You can keep your HDD, DVD/RW, case and PSU if it's strong enough but ideally you would like to replace that too. I know you are trying to squeeze a bit more out of your PC but it is just not worth it.

GTX 750ti would cost about $150 and for that you can probably get some AMD CPU and ram which would increase your fps quite a bit. Add $60 to that and you have a motherboard.

Edit:

You could probably go with something like this:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1vGI7

+PSU if you need it.

What PSU ?

I must have for got to put it in sorry. Its a cooler master 500W ps but it says on the sticker that wont output more than 431.5 W.

Its a CoolerMaster RS-500-PCAR-D3 and the ps on the computer has burnt out in the past so its probably about 3 years newer than the rest of the sysytem (the graphics card is also newer).

That sounds like an awsome idea so would my psu be capable of powring that stuff or would I really need a new one?

And also thank you all for the advice its really appreciated..   :D
