How exactly do I change ssd's?

I'm on windows 10 and use 840 evo as my drive with windows on it, with an 8tb hdd for storage only. I want to upgrade to 980 evo when it comes out and completely remove the 840 evo from my system. I have never changed ssds before so I dont know how this all works. I have my windows product/serial ID written down and my windows copy is linked to my microsoft account I believe. So what would be the steps to do this? I'm assuming just removing the 840 evo, then inserting the 980 evo, then boot up the pc but I have no idea what it would do after that. Keep in mind im clueless when it comes to drives, so if you say "format it" or whatever idk what that means

10x speeds but in gaming you just won't see it, SSD speed only impacts handling of quite massive files. Not sure if you're doing some kind of professional workload but if you're not then just clean up software clutter and you'll see basically the only speed boost available to you.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Newer NVME SSDs have a THEORETICAL speed improvement. Unless you're doing stuff like writing constantly to it or moving heavy project files like in video editing, casual tasks like gaming, everyday applications like browsing the internet, or even opening windows will see a MINIMAL improvement. Unless it is for a professional task, it's not worth it. Also, SSDs can last longer than 10 years depending on how heavily you are writing to them

Basically just put the new drive in, install the os. Nothing special you have to do.

Create a bootable Windows USB installer using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, install the new SSD in your system, unplug your old SSD for good measure, then boot from the USB installer and install Windows. If your Windows 10 license is tied to your Microsoft account, it should activate when you sign in to your new Windows installation. Boom, done.
