which power supply?

So I'm looking to upgrade my current power supply to something preferably around the 750w area. I've heard Corsair's RMX series is pretty good, but I was wondering if there were any other options. For example, the Seasonic Focus GX 750W.

Whats the best value PSU that performs reliably, that will last me a long while?

The Corsair RMx is very good, but what are your system specs? 750W may be overkill.

 

Do not trust the PSU calculators some will overestimate by a TON, others get the number by calculating the max draw of each component. But in the real world all components will never draw at their max simultaneously. For reference my R7 3800x + 1080Ti system is estimated to draw 660W on PcPartPicker but I have never seen it draw more than 475W MAX from my UPS.

my system specs are

cpu: 3700x

gpu: 1060 6g (upgrading to rx 5700 at some point)

 

i know 750 watts is over kill, but i want to be able to use this psu for as long as possible, unless you suggest that 650 or even 550 will suffice for a long time.

The wattage is not what denotes how long a PSU will last.  That is all up to the quality of components that make up said PSU.

Take a look at the warranties offered on each item.

 

If you are drawing 475, I would suggest maybe a 550w or 600w to leave room for future upgrades (and perhaps complete overhauls)

 

Corsair, Seasonic, EVGA are all good brands.

I'd probably recommend 650W but no harm in 750W either, but don't go beyond that. Just get a quality unit.

Re-branding for the most part, the RM replaced the RMx. Maybe a few components changed but overall it's the same performance and quality with the same warranty.

That's why you often see RMx (2018) and RM (2019). But yeah based on pricing and options the RM750W I linked is the best option not only for pricing but for overall quality as well. To get a better PSU you'd have to spend a lot more, and it's not really worth it, the RM is already one of the best options. My brother has had his RMx for 5+ years, issue free.

The RM does not replace the RMx. They are two separate lines.

 

The RM (2019) is a cheaper, cost down version of the RMx. The RM is meant for system integrators who need to meet certain low load efficiency requirements in California.

The RMx is the better of the two.

Yes lol, not so much a source but someone (like me I guess) who probably was either making up info or relaying incorrect info they also read/heard elsewhere. The internet is a great place for disinformation haha.
