Building a gaming/editing PC [1400-1500]

Hello everyone!

 

Since my old system is quite old I am planning on building an entire new system, which is capable of both gaming on high res and editing at a certain degree.

 

What do you think of this list?

 

My max budget would be 1400-1500.

@pipodog Go for a 570x chipset board and an XT 5700 instead of the rtx 2070, go for better quality ram (like trident z or corsair vengeance)

Seems like a great build.

If you want to shave off some cash you could spring for the MSI B450 A-PRO Max which has the same VRM but is slightly cheaper, but otherwise it seems like a nice build.

Why X570? They're just more expensive and he doesn't need PCIe-4

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

500 gig ssd for games is decent in my opinion.  he could go with rtx 2070 super, 32gigs of ram and 1tb ssd. its what he wants. that build was my opninion.

Yeah. The most important parts to an editing pc in my mind are a good cpu, 16 gb or more of ram, and a decent gpu. A 2080 Super seems pretty overkill.

I'm an editor myself and my build is nearly similair to yours. Built it about a month ago and I would say, go for it.

My build:

Case:
NZXT H510 - Midtowermodel

CPU:
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz (4.4 GHz) - 8 cores

Mobo:
MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX

 

RAM:
Corsair Vengenance RGB Pro DDR4 - 32 GB: 2 x 16 GB - 3200 MHz

 

Storage:
Samsung 970 EVO 1TB M.2 - SSD

 

GPU:
Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT PULSE - 8GB

 

PSU:

You can probably get it for cheaper and maybe hardware in the US might also be cheaper in general.

Maybe one thing that I would change is get a 650W+ PSU.

Your system doesn't need it, but such a high-quality PSU can live for decades and you can carry it over from PC to PC, and maybe in the future you will need more wattage. Usually it doesn't cost too much extra to add those extra 100W

Use the stock amd cooler, its good enough.

If you are doing heavy video editing (especially premiere pro/after effects) 32GB of ram is quite important, as with complicated heavy timelines premiere can easily use 20+gb of ram on its own.

1TB NVMe ssd as especially if you have high res/high bitrate video, you will benefit from a faster than sata ssd.

2080 super because number 1 you still wanna game. this is the second fastest card for gaming, fastest card which makes sense in price. amd has no answer. number 2, CUDA acceleration.

This is the final build for me. I just ordered and I am really excited.

In my region (Central Europe) I payed a total of around 1600€ in total. Thank you again for your advices!

Wattage doesn't indicate quality/lifespan. I see the argument if he was looking at 450W, in case future gear is a little more power hungry, but 550W is enough to run even a super hungry Vega GPU system with overhead.

I know it doesn't indicate quality/lifespan, but if he ever goes dual-gpu he might need it. Who knows what the future holds, maybe 2 generations from now, GPUs will be fermi-like and use up 300W. IMO it's worth the extra $10 but it's definitely a nitpick.
