How do I get better quality sleep?

-ism

So, my schedule is really messed up for school. Every other day we switch classes. We call this blue and silver days. My blue days, I have AP Physics, Algebra 2, AP Government, & AP US History. Silver I have PE, Spanish 4, Student gov, and then Language Arts 3 Honors.

I have literally no work to do on blue days, however on silver days I am extremely overloaded. However, I get my work done before 10 PM (usually) and I am in bed early. But for some reason, on those nights, I have like extreme anxiety and have really horrible sleep. I always wake up at like 5:30 randomly, and I'm super tired and super anxious, it feels like I get no sleep, whereas on silver days I usually feel great in the morning. This has been happening all year pretty much but recently has gotten 10x more annoying.

How can I get better sleep? I have these like lavender pill things that are supposed to make you feel calm but they don't really seem to work at all. I think it may be due to the fact that I DREAD blue days, whereas I look forward to silver days.

Its all about the zzzQuil man. It saves lives. If your homework isnt due until the day after the next day, split your work up. Do half the night you get it, then half the next, and you'll be good to go for when it's due!

Drink Vodka!

I start drinking as soon as I get off work and usually end up falling asleep/passing out by 9. That equals 9 hours of sleep a night for me.

I had to go to the doctor after I couldn't take getting 2.5 hours of sleep a night. Got some extremely strong sleeping medication and it helps. Try sleeping somewhere cool, and keep your pillow cool. Not sure there is much that could be done, besides a temperpedic bed...

Don't pull a me and stay up until 10:30 or 11 on LTT, and then do all of your homework the next day in class (after getting up at 6:30 everyday).

Yea, you are probably overloading yourself with work. Try splitting it up one time and I bet it'll be better. It's less stressfull which should help sleeping and you dont go straight from homework to bed, which I dont recommend. I do this exact thing basically and it helps alot. Plus, it gives you free time before bed.

In Michigan, you'll want all the heat you can get right now. It wasn't even 5C today, and I went outside in a shortsleeved shirt and shorts. Not being almost -30C sure is nice...

Taking pills is a horrible idea. Can cause addiction, or a dependency, so if you ever ran out of pills you would panic and think you incapable of sleep, pills are proven to have side effects. Yes even the so called natural pills.
If humans needed pills to sleep, you would have been born with a prescription and a bottle of them in your hand. In saying that, in times of extreme pressure, or emotional circumstances, like losing a loved one, you could. But please NEVER self medicate. seek a professionals help.

Have you tried, changing your bed. maybe even just flipping the mattress over to the other side. changing pillows and sheets.

Many studies say that slight exercise before sleep, like a brisk walk or jog can help. I know some people that go to the gym after 5pm and that would tire you out, while also giving you the benefit of a clearer mind, as physical activity is proven to assist in good mental health.

You could employ what parents of young babies do. You could have a relaxing bath or shower. You mention you are anxious, this could help relax you before bed time.

Regarding your issue of anxiousness It is best to seek some professional assistance, why are you feeling anxious. what can be done, and facing up to your fears if any.

Take melatonin, it is the chemical naturally produced in your body to make you sleepy and sleep a full night. Before I started taking it I couldn't just lay down and go to sleep, I had insomnia bad. I would have to stay up 30 hours just to even sleep even then I wasn't rested.  I would lay there for hours not being able to sleep. Been taking melatonin for 8 months every night before bed. I am asleep within 20 minutes every night and cannot sleep without it ( I have tried, the same old happens again) and every night has been this successful if not even quicker. It will change everything trust me.

Doing exercise always works. It makes you feel better and helps you fall asleep. You may feel exhausted, but thats mentally not physically, thus the daily exercice to make you fall asleep faster.

(works for me :) )

Can you ask your teachers to hand out assignments and stuff that aren't due for a few days?  You shouldn't be doing homework all on your busy days nonstop till you go to bed.  Trying to split up homework to make your easy days more busy is probably something to try.

Alternatively you can dig holes chest deep then fill them in on the weekend for 16 hours a day, it'll make a busy day at school a lot less stressful.

What I usually do is find a really good Pandora station. The old songs will bring back memories from when I was a kid, and just make me happy. I'll try to find something happy to dream about, and usually I'll sleep better. It works most of the time if you try hard enough :)

I have the Forza 4, Halo, Halo 3, ODST, Reach, and 4 soundtracks on my computer, and I listen to those when I want to chill out. I also have these headphones with 2GB storage, but I only have 4, CE, and Forza on it (not enough room for my other tunes).

If you want, I can hook you up with the soundtrack from Black Ops II. It's not the greatest ever, but it's alright. Something new to listen to, and I did spend $300 on the collectors edition just for it. :) PM me if you want it.
