Trying to use the EOS R as a webcam for conferences

Hi all,

 

I am using the EOS R and was trying to get it to work as a webcam for Zoom and Google Meet.

I am using the USB-C cable that came with the camera and also using Live Camera and CamTwist.

However, I just can't seem to get Meet and Zoom to recognize my EOS R as a camera input.

OBS seems to be able to recognize the syphon client fine though.

 

Any suggestions?

Do I have to use a HDMI cable instead?

I think that you need to use an HDMI cable and either software or hardware (like a Cam Link) in order to use a DSLR as a webcam, but I'm not that familiar with the subject.

use an HDMI cable into a capture card is best.

If OBS can see it then install the VirtualCam plugin which makes a virtual webcam with OBS' output that will work with your communication programs.

A bit late now, but Canon just dropped a new utility that would allow you to use certain Canon cameras as a webcam, no capture card needed:

The software is still in beta, and it will also only work on PCs running the 64-bit version of Windows 10.
