Laptop for an engineering student

I am looking for a thin and light (hopefully (to a reasonable level)) laptop for school. I am going to be studying computer engineering, so I will probably have to do some light cad modeling, circuit analysis, etc.

I am not quite sure yet if I will need a gpu for such things. (I do have a powerful enough PC at home) I will probably mostly use it for textbooks and stuff.

I am looking at around $1000-$1400 price point.

Was considering XPS13 developer edition, but it is not available in Canada yet.

Can’t you order it from an American site and just pay the extra shipping?
