Did I get the wrong Mobo?

I got my pc custom built from Ibuypower since it will allow me to learn on it/upgrade it. I got a 8 core i9 9900kf processor and a 2080ti FE.

However i'm not that knowledgeable about motherboards and I was informed after purchase by someone more knowledgeable that the Asus prime z390p might not work well with my 9900kf.

I do not plan to overclock on it so i guess what I would like to know is if the z390p will be okay with the base 3.6ghz clock speed of the 9900kf and base 2080ti.

Any info you can provide is much appreciated!

1. the all core turbo on the 9900k (and KF) is 4.7GHz, i.e. they'll run 4.7GHz on all cores at stock if your board doesn't suck, which means you're giving up a lot of ground in the first place

2. If 3.6GHz is fine for you, then you're wrong by picking the 9900KF (or any Intel CPU on that matter) in the first place since that's the same thing as saying "I dont need that much performance"

and yes it should be fine for only base clock operation

It's one of the most basic Z390 boards out there, so I really wouldn't suggest overclocking a 9900K on it past its all-core turbo, which is 4.7GHz.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Thank you for this detailed response. I wish i knew more about motherboards at the time because i definetly did want to overclock the 9900kf until i found out that i choose a pretty limited mobo. I am okay with base clocking if it means allowing me to use the mobo i got until i can save up for a better one.

It is going to work but it's a very basic board, something like a Z390 Prime-A could be fit for some light to moderate overclocking but the Prime-P is good only for base clocks.

On a side note, I hope you got a decent cooler to go with the 9900KF - otherwise you're in for a world of overheating and a bad time. It's a known hot CPU which needs solid cooling

I got a CORSAIR Hydro Series H150i PRO 360mm Liquid Cooling System

Is that sufficient?

Yes, more than sufficient. Make sure you have a good mount and it'll be fine

You should have asked here before buying...

In your case a Ryzen build would be more suitable...🤔
