Fast internet - but only to 1 app

Heyyyy! 
 

was wandering if anyone can help, I have amazing internet, virgin media 350mb package, I can get origin/ steam etc to download at 40Mbs 😍😍 but as soon as I start gaming at Same time the game take all the internet. And the download drop to like 2MBs.

 

any reason/ solution would be grateful

 


 

I have msi afterburner on and I have loads of cpu, gpu and ram available.

It's not really an issue of hardware as opposed to your internet bandwidth having to be split to multiple sources.

I'm assuming it's an online game you're playing?

if you go to Steam -> Settings. you should be able to set your preferences in the downloads section.

Your game my also be sending priority packets, which notify the router that the packets it's sending are important. I think it's called POL (Priority over LAN)

That's only when streaming via Steam though.

He's talking about when a game is open the speeds slow down, not when streaming :)

sorry, I should have highlighted "Allow downloads while streaming" as well.

That only applies to when you're playing steam games. And he's talking about a reduced download rate, not it completely stopping, as that setting would cause it to do...

This is likely the issue, and your router is just prioritizing this over your download, causing it to be a bit slower.
