VPN: Free vs paid

Anyone used free version not trials. Was it safe? Which is the probably the best free? 

The best paid one is express VPN. 

Does free version record logs and sell your info?

i use proton vpn. there is a free version and 2 or 3 paid tiers. i use the free tier, and its slower than without a vpn ofc, but its fast enough. their free servers are in us, netherlands and japan. theyre based in swizterland i believe and apparently they have strict privacy laws. they say they dont log, at all. their track record is amazing. they even give you a week of premium, without a credit card. they get a very strong recommendation from me
