Cheapest CPU to overclock to 5 GHz on a single core?

The reason why I want to know this is so I can have a good experience playing extremely large mod-packs in minecraft.

The 9900KS because it comes factory overclocked to 5GHz all core.

But I don't know if it's the best option for Minecraft, haven't played the game in ages. So not sure if the 9900KS is the most logical option.

It's the only guaranteed 5Ghz CPU, which you asked for 5Ghz.

Otherwise it might be better to ask for a good CPU for you purposes, without attaching such arbitrary numbers like 5Ghz to it.

A Ryzen 5 3600 or i5 9600K for a bit more single core performance will do great for most too. Just not guaranteed 5Ghz.

Okay thanks. What I meant was something that I could overclock myself to ~5 GHz.

Keep in mind the Ryzen 5 3600x won't go to 5Ghz, but also keep in mind frequency isn't the only thing to judge a CPU on

#IPCmatters

You can have a 60ghz CPU if its IPC is 1 its still a slow ass CPU.  A "cheap" 5 ghz single core CPU doesn't really exist, that has an IPC worth pushing to 5.0ghz (and is still cheap, like the aforementioned FX 9590 which has GARBAGE IPC compared to a slower in frequency chip with higher IPC.

Cheapest? Cheaper than fx4300? Or I5 2500K? Or a delidded i5 3570K? Yes, the first one still sucks, the 3570K is competitive.

Or try one of these unlocked Pentium Gs, dual-cores that pair a good ipc with good oc-capabilities...

@Sir0Tekthanks for the help man

All those mentioned above at 5ghz will get beaten by any regular cpu nowadays at stock in single core performance which is what you are looking for.

Best comparison I could find is a 3770k at 5ghz it comes within 7% of a ryzen 3600 at stock speed in single core performance.

The G3258 single core at 5ghz will be about as fast as the Ryzen 3600 stock/turbo. Some 'regular' cpus out there aren't that fast, like the 3200g for example.

Is it worth it? No. Worth breaking a sweat oc'ing an old cpu in order to get a performance beating the I3-9100F? No.
