Hey guys

so a couple nights ago, I spilt Pepsi into my computer. I have anxiety and before an attack comes on I get a tremor in my hand that I can’t control which hit the soda off my desk into the computer. I know. I shouldn’t have had the soda there.

I pulled everything out and my issue is I misplaced some screws. My friend tested everything, and the only thing that didn’t work, was the motherboard. I got a new motherboard, and everything powers on when it’s not in the case, but out of the case it doesn’t power on. I’ve ordered a new case but could it be something as simple as the screws I tried not being long enough to mount the Mobo right, or Front panel connectors shorting? I’m just lost.

Outside of the case, the screwdriver trick had to be used and it powered on instantly. Inside the case, it won’t start. At all.

anyhow, could be a grounding issue. Remove any standoffs that aren’t needed, and only tighten your screws *just* enough. (If standoffs are non-removable, cover them with a piece of electrical tape)

Could be a short, if the new motherboard's size is different from the old one, there might be a standoff on the motherboard tray that isn't in the right place and shorting the motherboard out from underneath it.

Also, for the screws, as long as they aren't waaaay wider than the screwhole, it should technically be fine. You can use plastic washers if you're worried about that.

While it's in the case, maybe you simply didn't plug the power button in the right place. Try to start the PC with a screwdriver while in the case (unplug front panel) or if you have a power button on the motherboard itself, use that. Remember to turn the PSU to the ON position and to plug it into the wall's power socket.

Get yourself a little kit with all the standard CPU screws.

That way you'll know the motherboard is in place correctly.

A short like this might be cause if you dropped a screw down behind the motherboard.  Could one of the lost screws done something like that?

Its possible the pepsi got into the case front I/O and screwed up the power/reset buttons, so check them.

make sure ur plugging the front I/O wires into the right pins on the motherboard and that the contacts havent been covered in pepsi.

The wire for the front panel switch might be gummed up, but that's the only reason why that would happen in that regard.

It's possible that if you spilled something inside the case, make sure the case is actually clean, but really there is no reason for a MB to not work inside the case other than the front panel wires being installed wrong.

Watch some basic PC building videos just to make sure you are mounting and connecting the motherboard properly.  Something as simple as misaligning the power and rest button jumpers is fairly common.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Same size which is why I’m fucking confused.

Appreciate this! I took Icy propyl alcohol and a magic eraser and cleaned it all.

See but why would the screw driver truck still not work on the mobo if it’s in the case

So if shorting the power pins isnt working inside the case then something is different from how u have it setup inside vs outside the case. Could be a bad wire connection, not fully connected power cable, a short caused by something like a standoff etc.

Obviously if the system works outside the case then ur doing something wrong during installation. Just go through it methodically and ull find the culprit.

It ended up being the power supply.

i guess Pepsi got into one of the connectors and caused a short so it was working on the wooden surface (table) but wasn’t working when the outside casing of the PSU, was touching the metal of the case. That being said, I replaced my PSU and now I have a functioning pc! Thank you all of the help!!
