If it's not price-prohibitive, I'd go for the X570/Ryzen combo any day of the week over buying an old board on a dead socket.

You should either get a cheap 1151v1 board (like a B250 board) or just go X570 (or good B450. Like Ryzen 5 3600 + B450 Gaming Plus).

If you go for Ryzen, you should definitely have 3000Mhz+ memory.

any cheap H110/210 or B150/250 is a much better call. A $200 motherboard for a locked i5 was a bad idea in the first place

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

if you find the mobo you need used for like $60, get it. otherwise, get a new platform. i wouldn't invest $200 in a dead platform.

at the moment, ryzen delivers best value. a r5 3600 is $170 and blows $250 intel cpus away

entirely up to you. as I said, I wouldn't spend more than $60 on a dead platform. if you manage to find a working motherboard, go for it, otherwise, if you're happy to spend $300 on a new platform, do that instead.

Mobo prices on the used market are weird. Some will spike because the chipsets are starting to fail and the supply is no longer there, some will spike because it's suddenly a viable alternative to new options (X58, E3 Xeons), and some will spike for no discernible reason whatsoever.

ray tracing is a gpu feature, not a cpu feature. you current card (1070) doesn't support it.

the 9600 is about 4% better in current games on average than the 3600. it is also 25% more expensive

When my mobo for the i5 2500k died, I wasn't going to drop $200 for a used ROG board, I got a cheap MSI off eBay. Shortly after, I build a 6700k rig to replace it ( now belonging to the GF )
