Help with buying new Motherboard, CPU and Ram

Hi.

So I bought this computer 4 years ago.

https://www.neweggbusiness.com/product/product.aspx?item=9b-83-102-104

Two years after I bought a gtx 1070 and replaced it with what was inside that computer. This pc is doing good and my expectations are low. I have some extra money so I decided to buy a new processor.

These are what I'm looking to buy:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IW7Z66U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2Y8CGQ5110ZKT&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SY8CMTX/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B428M7F/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Is it okay to switch. I'm such a noob. Is there anything I should be aware of?

Am I making a mistake? are there any better things I can buy for the same price?

I am a noob when it comes to these stuff so feel free to criticize or educate me.

I would match the 8gb stick or sticks you have, hopefully its just 1x8gb, then match it and grab another 1x8gb stick. If its 2x4gb sticks, then hopefully you have 4 ram slots, do the same buy 2x4gb and try to match the sticks as close as you can.

2700X sure, but compare to 2600X cpu in price, 8 vs 6 cores, needs attention. Video editing, streaming then 8 corse, otherwise 6 is better bang for buck.

Buy the Tomahawk MAX motherboard

I have 2x4gb and they are ddr3. As for the 2600x the difference is 40-50 bucks. I want something to last me for 4-5 years.

DDR3 on his present rig, DDR4 for his proposed new system, so your recommendation is not valid I'm afraid. Also, he's getting a Ryzen+ CPU, no need for the 'MAX' moniker model as those support Ryzen 2 (unless price of both 'MAX' and non-MAX models are same....or, very similar. As for 6C/12T 2600X vs 8C/16T 2700X, really up to the TS's usage scenario, but IF I were him, I'd go for the latter.

Good points. I'm only buying these for gaming. Do you think I should buy the 2600X? I was thinking I should get 2700X since we are going to the next gen and the future games might need more cpu power.

Is 8 cores really necessary?

I was just thinking, Is it possible to get a motherboard that supports SLI and also supports that ryzen 7 2700x?

Why bother with ryzen 2?

The 3600 is a far better cpu $175 USD on amazon ifyou live in the US and have a microcenter its even cheaper plus the $20 off with motherboard.

as for sli motherboards if going 3600

The cpu that you said seems to perform better. Does the 2 extra cores matter that much?

Those motherboards you mentioned are too pricey for me. Anything cheaper?

You can pair the 3600 with a B450 mobo, like the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX or Mortar MAX, these should support Zen2 right out of the box. Be sure to get DDR4 3200 CL16 RAM at the very least.

Thanks but was hoping for something that support sli since I have a gtx 1070. Was thinking maybe in the future I buy another and pair them.

Forget dual/multiple GPU gaming, support for SLi/CrossFire is just about dead since support and optimization depend on game devs who are unlikely to expend time and effort on this given minuscule number of systems with dual GPU's or more. This coming from a guy who'd previously run dual GTX Titan and dual RX VEGA64 system.....and at least one of my systems in the past was SLi or Crossfire at any one time (mostly CrossFire as I'm an AMD GPU guy).

FYI, I have a 2nd GB VEGA64 Gaming OC as reserve card as I feel doing CrossFire now is a waste of time....

I only suggested x570 for full features you wanted and overclocking.

If you're not overclocking then yes B450 is fine and I believe you can do a little on it if you ever wanted to overclock.

Also make sure after windows installation you get the updated bios and D.O.C.P./XMP the ram. Ryzen loves high speed ram.

As for ram I ordered these two:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IW7Z66U/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2Y8CGQ5110ZKT&psc=1&tag=linus21-20

One more question. Are all motherboards the same size. Will I have a problem with mounts and screwing?

After you install all your new hardware.

Do a clean install of windows and don't connect to internet during it until posting to desktop, then connect to the internet via Ethernet/WiFi and install updates of windows before you touch any applications or files.

Make sure you have the latest media creation tool on a usb drive.

Well I move all my files to another drive on my system. So its just an easy throw back in and install applications. If you don't have that option, google for best free one.

After working on it for hours I finally got it working.

Everything works fine except for Rams, I should have 16gb but it only shows 8.

There were 4 slots on the mobo, From left to right I put them on first and second.

Does it matter where I put them?

What could be wrong?
