Destruction, not reusable, but if you're just looking to erase a disk, hammers and a steel trashcan. Or break it and drop it into a blender.

IIRC windows had some sort of rewriteable format that could be used to rewrite R discs. I havent needed to rewrite a DVD since 2009 so I might be remembering it wrong.

Maybe you're thinking of the ability to use a CD-R/DVD-R format multiple times? There is an issue where if you finalize the disc, you can write one byte and the disc is no longer writeable but most burner software is aware of this.

It didn't actually allow to rewrite them, it did allow you to add to them as long as there was free space left. It did allow you to "delete" files from the discs as well in the manner that it just wrote "hey, this file has been deleted" in the filesystem-structure -- the file itself wasn't actually truly deleted, Windows just pretended it wasn't there anymore.

If you're familiar with the concept of filesystem-overlays, that's what Windows did.

Ah that is probably it. I only did once or twice back when windows 7 was just released.

You can't ERASE -R or +R discs.

If the discs are not "closed" (or in other words if they're multi-session), then you could create another session which says previously written files are "deleted".

The disc would only show the files that are mentioned in the last session.

Not sure but depending on software, you may be able to create a disc image of the whole disc and then extract files from previous sessions.

You missed DVD-RAM in your list, which behaves like a usb stick, but it's very slow compared to usb sticks.

You can still buy them :

Amazon.com: Verbatim DVD-RAM 9.4GB 3X Double Sided, Type 4 with Branded Surface - 1pk with Cartridge: Home Audio & Theater

Amazon.com: New JAPAN Panasonic DVD-RAM 4.7GB 3x Speed 120min LM-AF120LA Pack 20 Tracking: Home Audio & Theater

Here's a Wikipedia-link to the filesystem and its extension that allowed this "rewrite"-capability, just in case you're curious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Disk_Format#VAT_build
