Why is Dark Souls 3 so hard?? ?

GamerBlake

I’ve literally died at least 50 times to the first boss Iudex Gundyr. ?

I even went out and bought a PS4 controller to make things a bit easier but I keep getting smashed!

Why would game devs torture players like that?? ?

Dark Soul 3 is my first Dark Soul game ever in my life, and I died 20 times or more on the first boss. I ripped my hair off. I kicked the table. I cussed at the screen. I almost threw my keyboard and mouse across my room. I gave up after 27 times and managed to defeat the first boss.

You know what’s crazy though?

I play a Knight class character and have died 50+ times..

But when I played the Pyromancer I killed him in my first try, because I could do damage from a distance instead of having to walk straight into his giant cleaver.

Its insane how much easier one class is over another.

Ouch! I never pay full price for Steam games (unless they just came out and I really want to play it like RE2 & Sekiro) because I know that they have sales allthe time.

As soon as you see him go to swing the weapon you got to roll into his feet and try get behind him

or you can even hold ur shield up if your playing knight, only go in for a few hits at a time

seriously 3 is probly too many hits,

try play safe and slowly grind him down

you have invulnerability when you roll so always roll when you see an attack coming

youtube where to get the butchers knife you get health back per hit

start with life ring as burial gift and put all your point into health untill it’s lv 25/30 then do stamina to lv 20

then do your damage

early game you can get the deep axe which is hitting for 206 damage (physical and dark) which is really heavy hitting weapon

and farm your titanite shards (12 ) to max it’s damage as much as possible early game

there is a very easy soul farming cheese at first bonfire at Lothric

800 souls per 2 mins that u can grind for a few hours to get you a head start

- 4000 32gb ram

At first, but wait until you need to rely on close range combat. The knight class starts with better stats in both dexterity and strength, not only allowing you to wield better weapons in the early game but also doing more damage due to scaling.

The knight is effectively the meta starting class for dks3, because the stats are the most well rounded and it also comes with the best armor. Early game lothric is made pretty trivial with the straight sword, or the deep battle axe which you can find on the mimic in the beginning.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I just am having a helluva time beating Iudex Gundyr with the Knight :/,

I did beat him once but then I accidentally attacked Hawkwood (?) the Deserter in the Firelink Shrine and now everytime I log in he immediately attacks & kills me so I had to start over since I read I’m not supposed to fight him until later. ??‍♂️

#1 rule for these games is be patient

#2 is learn the bosses moveset, every boss will have an opening after an attack or combo.

#3 is your own timing

Once you get in this mindset you realize that souls games are about being methodical and learning rather than 'hard'.

I’ve tried learning Iudex Gundyr’s moveset and I beat him with both the Pyromancer (first try!) and the Sorcerer..

But I really want to play the Knight and I’ve tried beating him at least 50 times and always failed. It seems like he just does random attacks whenever I’m close to him and then he hits me again when I’m already on the ground so I go from full health to like 15% health after being hit by a combo attack.

Or he’ll just reach out and grab me and shove his axe through my torso. ?

It was mentioned a few posts up, your invincible for a few frames while rolling, this is a key game mechanic.  Try and roll through his strikes.  Block, dodge, roll, and to a lesser extent parry are super important to these games.  Gotta get the timing down.  For the most part getting greedy with your attacks will get you killed as well, get in for two or three hits and get out.

Ahh ok I didn’t know I was invincible at any point while rolling.

Do you know if using the shield for blocking or the thing where he swings his shield to the left is useful?

So far I’ve just been relying on rolling in for a hit or two and rolling out to avoid getting hit and trying to either jump back or dash away if I need to use a heal,

The hardest part is the second phase where it seems like it’s almost impossible to avoid being hit and when I go in to hit him his character model is so big I can’t even see my character.

Errr can I even do a lot of that stuff before Iudex?

Because he’s right at the beginning and I haven’t seen any where to put stat points or pick up a butcher’s axe or any of that.

Also I just bought this game during the Lunar New Year sale when it was $14.99 instead of the normal $59.99 so I have no idea what some of the stuff you’re talking about even means. ?

The only item I’ve even seen prior to Iudex is 5x Firebombs (which I accidentally wasted when I was trying to learn how to play with a PS4 controller instead of a mouse).

Apparently I have to waste a bunch of time by going into the options menu, selecting the Firebomb and then clicking “use” in order to throw one.

I wish I could just press right trigger and have my character automatically throw a firebomb rather than having to manually go in and select it which takes like 2-3 seconds. Those seconds are a long time in a tough fight

Yes to blocking, almost every attack can be blocked at the cost of stamina.  If I remember the early game shield only blocks about 75% of the damage, but it doesnt take long to get better shields.

Swinging your shield to the left is your parry, timing this is tricky and not all attacks can be parried.  But where it works its always worthwhile, it can be a gamble because if you miss you take a full hit.  IMO start to practice this on the mob enemies once you get the basics down, 100% possible to be very successful without parrying.

You might not be able to get any of the mentioned items before Ludex, its been a while but I dont remember there being much in the tutorial area.

Spoiler

you get a chance to fight him again mid to late game that the items mentioned will be available for.

You can set the firebomb to a hot key, probably up or down on the D pad, again its been a while.  I cant even remember of the firebombs do any significant damage to ludex.  The obtuse nature of these games is a bit of a downer at the start but actually becomes one of their major charms once everything starts to click.

Ah ok thanks for the info!

I only mentioned the Firebombs because he’s weak to Fire and I read a guide online that said it does significant damage to him in his second phase.

It would’ve helped a lot to melee him until second phase than use Firebombs from a distance when he’s in his second phase to bring him down.

If your knight your shield blocks 100 percent physical damage just practise trying to stay behind him

Also when he changes on the second part of the fight, get in there you can land like 6 free hits,

start the game again

collect your fire bombs, practice how to equip them and use them

then start game again so u can have all the bombs to fight him with

also equip your ember so once you out of flasks you can pop that for a full heal and extra health, as soon as you pull the sword you can get a fair few hits in before he even stands up

then when he transforms hit him like crazy dusting the transformation

then fire bomb him down

I don’t think it’s 100% but more like 90-95% damage blocked.

Because there’s an archer mob right before Iudex and I always have to run up, block his first arrow, and slash him down and my health loses a tiny bit.
