Seeking opinions on GPU upgrade

Ronaldo266

Wanting to upgrade from r9 380 4gb

PC specs

2700x

16gb ram

750w psu

Monitor is 1080p 144hz

I'm having a really hard time deciding what's worth it to upgrade to.

All are new(I won't buy used)

1070  $220

2060 $324

Rx 5700 $368

2060 super $432

RX 5700x gigabyte oc $432

USD

tax and shipping are included in the prices.

I want to get 144fps on rocket league(which i know any of these will do) and around 80 fps minimum on other games high/ultra.

I'm thinking if I get the 1070 I'll have to upgrade in 2 years.

And idk if the 2060 is worth $100 more than the 1070, doesn't seem like it.

If I get the 2060 super or 5700 or 5700xt, I'll probably keep it for 5 years like my r9 380.

I really want the 5700 or 5700xt but idk if it's worth dealing with all the driver issues. I guess I could get one and try it out but the 2060 super seems pretty similar in performance for the Same price and 99% chance I won't have driver issues.

Ive never spent more than $230 on a gpu and I'm hesitant to spend any more than $400 but I'm considering it for the 2060 super or 5700xt.

What I really want is a good 8GB card for $350 (which i guess would be an rx 5700) but I'm almost positive I'll have driver issues.

Most of the time I play rocket league or older games but once in a while I'll want to play a more demanding game, that's why I'm considering the 1070 but i feel like I might regret it in a year.

It almost feels pointless to upgrade right now since none of the GPU's seem worth it for one reason or another, and idk if waiting for new nvidia cards this year will make any difference.

I would appreciate your opinion, so tell me what you think.

I am surprised that the 380 cant hit 144 fps in rocket league. Are you sure it is the GPU and not the cpu that is holding you back? Or are you running it at very high settings or something?

Well having owned a 5700xt for a couple of months now, I'm telling you it WILL have driver issues. If you are smart about reading the release notes for each driver revision and do a bit of research you will be able to avoid most of the problems. Other then that it's a great card and I'd recommend it to anyone willing to do a bit of troubleshooting. (Why does this look like a review lol)

It can get over 144 but it doesn't stay there, it jumps around anywhere from like 50-158. Some days it stays at 120 fps, some days it wont go higher than 80 fps And yeah most settings are on very high

If it was me id go with the cheapest option aka the 1070 as they are still good cards but if you've got the money grab a 2060 super its almost worth the money and will carry you for the next couple of years, as long as games dont get massively more demanding.

With the new console generation coming out at the end of the year, games WILL probably get more demanding as they will be able to take advantage of the the massively more powerful hardware.

Why would console coming out make games anymore demanding, its not like developers just magically decide to put more crap into there games and more detail?

Since most of the mainstream is on console, developers are limited in what they can do. With the new console generation developers will be able go gear their games towards more powerful consoles, therefore making games more graphically demanding. All things considered the 1070 is still a good card, but if the OP is going to use a card for 5 years getting whatever is the most powerful is probably the best in the long run.

Well, if you want more performance per buck you should go with AMD (RX 5700) IF you don't mind having driver issues.

Otherwise, I'd recommend the RTX 2060 or the Super version. Super is quite more efficient and what not. When I looked into the stats, it's kind of even worth the money.

Always thinks his PC is underperforming

Thanks for the replys, I ended up ordering a 5700xt. If the problems annoy me too much I'll just return it and get a 1070 probably.

Get the 5700xt

It's not much weaker than a 2070super sometimes when on par so great value if you don't care about raytracing
