IR blaster in a phone

Maybe I'm just silly but why is this not a normal thing? So much in the house uses ir it seems like a no brainier.

Wifi/Bluetooth is the new thing. Just for lulz. The nokia only supported file transfer over IR

My guess is that not enough mainstream people used it, so companies decided it wasn't worth keeping around. 

 

I love mine too, and the fact there aren't any on newer phones makes me hesitant to upgrade from my LG G3. Though there are some IR blasters that plug in the USB-C port.

Quite a few phones have it, but you need to choose one that does.

I use it for my TV and then use the Kodi app for my libreelec.

I had S4 Mini, One M8, LG G4 and now Mi A3. I simply cant do it without it. However I should mention that its software that makes IR blaster useful or complete shit. For example LG G4 I had pretty much controlled everything I threw at it using its included app (Including recording AC remote signal which most of the phone cannot even output let alone record.)

IR blasters are still useful. If for any reason you still need one and have a headphone jack. 3.5mm IR adapters are usually only $5-10

When i still had my s7 i used it all the time. But honestly loads of people dont use it. Making it a waste of money for phone brands
