Missing psu cables? maybe not

Kaspersome

So while following this build tutorial

I realized that i have a few cables missing... 1. HD audio cable.. 2. USB connector. Are thes required?? Because i kinda want to be able to use a headset and my usb’s! Do i have to buy them seperately? My psu is the corsair cx 2017 450. Next, im trying to turn in my pc without a case, and i cant figure out how. Everything is plugged in securely and i cant seem to turn it on. How does one do this?

There are no HD audio or USB connectors on a PSU. Those go from your case to your motherboard and thus should be somewhere on your case. Same for the front panel connectors, like power, reset, etc. So if you're building outside your case for now, you are not dealing with those cables yet.

To turn on the PC without a case, short these two pins together using a screwdriver or similar metal object:

1.) Plug the display cable into the gpu

2.) does  the gpu hhave a power cable connected? Hard to see

3.) whats your exact cpu and motherboard?

You're shorting these two pins, right?

By shorting the pins, I mean using a screwdriver to touch both the pins at the same time.

Make sure the PSU is plugged into an active power outlet too.

Also, plug the display cable into the GPU.

Does it just not show display, or do the fans also not turn on?

im gonna try a video... here maybe this can be more accurate.

Try a different screwdriver. It's possible yours it not metal at the end and thus not bridging the connection.

Something else metal will also work, like tweezer or even a kitchenknife. As long as something metal is touch both pins at the same time. Try to hold it to those pins for a couple sec too.

The cooler looks like it is not properly mounting. Did you screw in one side completely before starting to screw the other side? If so, unscrew the one side a bit, hold down the cooler and make sure the side that is loose is screw in at least a little bit. That way you can actually put even pressure on it.

Are you using the i3 8100 CPU?

If so, I would recommend just trying the motherboard HDMI real quick. No, that shouldn't work. The motherboard should switch to the dedicated GPU and thus have that give sound, but doesn't hurt to try, or try with a different display.

ill try as soon as i get the chance, does it matter if it only works on the motherboard? Clearly the gpu is on as well so that’s not the problem. Also i re screwed the cpu fan, it helped a lot so no more slack with that!

If the screen does turn on when connected to the motherboard, you will have to troubleshoot the GPU. As I said, that should not happen, but it's just a sanity check at this point.

But I would try a GPU reseat to be sure too.

a gpu reset, what would that be? reseat meaning just to take it out and back in?

Yup, reseat would just be taking the card out and slotting it back in.

That's great :D

Glad you were able to fix it!
