GTX 745 OEM Upgrade

Hi,

I have this old PC that I’m working on and it has a GTX 745 OEM Model graphics card in it. Now I was going to swap it out for a GTX 1050ti because I know that graphics card is compatible with this motherboard, power supply, and case size.

 

The thing that’s throwing me off is that there’s a wire coming from the 745 and as far as I am aware of that graphics card didn’t need to be connected directly to the power supply.

 

i was hoping if someone could help me identify what it is and if it is a power cable, how would I go about putting the 1050ti in this case.

So I've had a 8600GT before which also had a thin black/white wire connected to it, then connected onto the motherboard, is this the case? - Hard to see from your photos.

 

EDIT: And also does the card have HDMI output? - It should.

 

EDIT2: I'm logging off so I'll leave my answer here: 
If the above assumption indeed is the case, then try pulling the cable off of the motherboard or GPU. 
That wire should be used for transfering audio, when you for example have a TV hooked up to the GPU using HDMI/DP.
Unhooking that cable will make you lose audio. 

In short: It's only required for your old OEM card 745 to transfer audio (why some OEM motherboard+GPU combo's need it, I don't know. But I bet you, you won't have audio problems with a new 1050ti on that system)

I think it's connected to the power supply but it could also be the motherboard. I'm not quite sure. And yes it does have a HDMI output. HMDI and DVI.

So I was doing a bit of investigating and it looks like the wire goes into the dvd/cd drive in the front of the case. Is that still the same sort of wire or would it like, blow up my computer if I pulled it out?

From what i can see , Its the wire of case to motherboard's Front panel connector.

Those photos are so unfortunate as is the cable management.  I can't see shit sorry. 

 

You could just check where the cable goes,  remove it from the other end carefully, then swap out the GPUs,  no way the 1050ti needs this.
